Question Official EGT spec’s for the 600 motor?

Do we have official spec’s from Cummins/DC for EGT limits on the 600 motor? I see numbers posted but they seem to vary a bit. Just looking for the facts, if any.

After you called Cummins, what'd they say? You could post their response.

I spoke w/a rep at Cummins about the max EGT in the manifold and he said Cummins does not offer numbers like that (DC also said they don’t have the info). He said the stock motor would not (under max load) go beyond an unsafe temp (I feel good enough about Cummins to believe this). The 600’s ECM will measure intake air temp, intake boost and fueling to get what would be equal to EGT. Sounds like the ECM will back things off if needed based on the mathematics. So, no mods and no gauge are needed unless you mod the motor per the rep.

The Cummins rep recommended installing EGT gauge probe (if really needed) not in the manifold. He said they’ve seen too many turbos bite the dust from probe failure. They recommend post turbo elbow if it must be done. And the EGT on average run 200* less than pre turbo. I know most prefer the manifold for the location.

So, once again…….still no manufacture EGT spec’s for the 600. From what I’ve gathered we don’t want to go too far past the 1,2500* mark for too long.

Oh please. He's just covering his butt. I've been addicted to several Internet diesel truck forums for 3 1/2 years now, and while I have seen many people post about many turbo failures on all three makes, I can't ever recall seeing even ONE thread about a probe breaking and a turbo failure.

Knock wood..... don't want to jinx myself.

When I had a Grand National I heard of some people having probes break in those but they run higher EGTs (around 1600-1850).
