Uh... no... hx 40 over ht-60? My small turbo flows nearly the same (within 4-5 lbs/min) as the ht60...

Ht 60 is just a newer version of the venerable ht3b... both flow roughly the same amount which is less than the s-4's that are popular now. HX 40 is roughly the same (older style turbo though) than the HE351 on the 04.5 and up trucks but the hx-40 flows about 5-6lbs/min less.

However, twins are twins and you are welcome in the club if you wish to be...

Hey folks... this thread is not just about putting names up in the member column.

If you have questions about twins, thinking about gettting twins, have twins and still have questions-- whatever, feel free to post questions here to get answers. Also, if someone has relevant technical info on twins to post, that is also welcomed here.

ENJOY! And Merry Christmas to all!

Since it has been awhile since I've really put out anything, I'll give an update on my Ball Bearing, Watercooled Garrett compound set up.

Currently, I'm running a GT4094r over a hybrid GT4518r. In terms of air equivalent, the 4094 is 80 lbs/min (equivalent to a silver bullet or s300 66/74/16) and the 4518 is a tad over 130 lbs/min or the rough equivalent of a s488 w/race cover. Spoolup starts very low in the RPM range, really just off idle and is a tad slower than my old setup, but at the same time smoother and not at all prone to compressor surge. Overall spool time and quality could be compared to a HE351... or very slightly faster. Except I top out at 85 lbs of boost. I would probably be higher psi on boost, but with a ported head and exhaust manifold, less restriction equals less boost psi but with more actual air. Plus, the pistons are slightly decompressed (about .67:1 less) and overbore by .020" (.050mm) creates a slightly larger compression chamber too... this all has its slight effect on flow restriction, or boost.

Bottom line is, as everyone knows already, twins extend the window for operability over a single because of the airflow vs lag characteristics. The ball bearing turbos create a larger window yet over similar sized journal bearing turbos due to the ability to spool earlier and faster. No one would suggest it wise to tow a 15k 5th wheel with silver bullet turbo (yes, we all know those who try it, and perhaps do it, but it doesn't make it a wise suggestion). However, the 4094 is a great towing turbo with plenty of air and great spooling characteristics. I am using a custom .99 a/r EH on mine.

When I can find someone with a video camera that knows how to post them, I'll have them do a ride along... the sound on these things is like listening to a 747 take off.

Were you previously running a 3788 over a 4508, or am I thinking wrong? I guess your current setup provides enough air to cool 900+ hp?

Man I'd like to hear that thing!

Yes, that was my previous set up, well actually the bottom was a 4208 hybrid. And yes, I suppose set up correctly, it should be enough for 900+hp... but I am not so sure I will get that high; I still tow a large travel trailer.
