Observations with new Tranny Bombs
Observations with new Tranny Bombs
I had some new toys installed by Suncoast up in Ft. Walton last Friday. The toys include: TC, VB, Billet Input Shaft, Laminated Flexplate. I've put just over 1,300 miiles on the truck since then and here are my observations:
- Joe & his team have a lot of pride in their work & have been great to work with. They have a large, clean shop (two buildings) with lots of machining equipment and inventory. The job was done on time & at the quoted price. They have an interesting assortment of (stock) twisted driveshafts, flex plates and input shafts in the lobby.
- When you put it in gear, it wants to go. It pulls right up my angled driveway. The stock TC would not.
- Since the TC is tighter, driving around town is at lower RPM's & requires less throttle.
- Shifts from 1-2, 2-3, 3-3Lock are firm but not harsh. I've run through the gears many times with varying throttle settings & it doesn't miss a beat. In fact, for me, it's perfect.
- OD to OD lock is fine at light throttle and heavy throttle but a little harsh at medium throttle. When I mentioned it to Joe earlier this week he researched the components that went into my setup & offered to send & new VB and have it installed by a local shop at his cost. Now that is customer service!!!
- The rpm drop when the TC locks at full throttle dropped from around 600RPM's (stock) to around 150RPMs with the new setup.
- No need to use the OD lock out. The TC puts the power down in every gear, even without TC Lock.
- By hand calc I'm getting slightly better mileage driving mostly in the city. Highway seems to be about the same (in TC lock).
- The chip on shut down only happens occationally now.
- The tighter TC has made it obvious that I need more power.
- No buyers remorse here. I'm extremely happy with the results.

Shovelhead - It's between the TST & Hot Juice (if they ever release for the 04's).
DS- Shoot me an IM or email & I'll give you the numbers. You'd enjoy talking to Joe. He's been in the game for a long time & knows a lot about our trucks beyond just the tranny's.
