LOL, ALOT more ppl on here have had problems with CL than Smarty. 1 dude is not enough for concern. And the Smarty dyno's 170, and does CL 172, so there isnt much gain is there??

Well no but cl is still more. So whats so good about smarty. There is a big huge band wagon that everyone jumps on with this site. So thats why smarty is so popular. Dyno facts prove CL has more power. You cant deny lukens setup. There are also a lot of threads lately like "smarty lacking power" or "smarty acting up".

sure, but there is also threads with ppl who have compared the 2 and smarty ends up being faster. Its 6 of one and 1/2 dozen of the other. Have you ever used a smarty?? No?? Then dont knock it till ya tried it!! I am not knocking the CL, just stating the fact that it does not offer 230 hp.

The SMARTY has software versions for different torque management, larger turbos, bigger injectors and comes with the latest DC software updates.
I'm not knocking BD but I like that the SMARTY can grow with you with any future mods.

The Smarty is dynoing around 195hp over stock on the 04.5+ models, I have heard of NO BDDLs doing that. Plus I have a BDDL and a Smarty, and believe me the Smarty 130hp tune will SMOKE BD's 130hp tune.

Luken is running scary larry which is a whole lot more than crazy larry. HP is one thing....torque is another and then there is the matter of the area under the horsepower and torque curves. On an 03-04 Smarty kicks tail over any downloader. On a 04.5 and up Smarty "typically is faster" than Crazy Larry but if you got a full billet race tranny and run Scary Larry it will be a tight race. Alot of what you end up with on the dyno is dependent on what you have done to your truck to support the power. Smarty with Marco and his associates have built a reputation of providing a bunch of tunes to help us all maximize our trucks performance. I can't wait to run the newest program. ks

I don't mean to sound rude, but others have already pointed out that it is NOT 230 HP gain for the Dodge...you're reading the advertising wrong (UP to 230HP as a generic statement about the product), or BD has a misprint in the ad you're referring to, or you must have gotten a squirrel on the phone at BD. ANY, and I mean ANY programmer or box will ALWAYS make more power on the duramax than the dodge. Bolt-on parts make the duramax the most powerful diesel on the market. That's where it ends though...just bolt-ons.

If you really think BD means 230 HP for the dodge, go dyno your truck and prove the several dyno figures from other members wrong. Then call up BD with your dyno and their misprinted ad and complain. I own both products and found the powerband to be too peaky with the CL tune. The smarty has a very smooth and linear powerband. It also pulls MUCH harder past 3000 RPM than the CL tune. I have had zero issues with my smarty on my 2005, and have updated the software twice...each time has made the product that much better than the BD CL tune. There's also no more 2k RPM flat spot w/ the Smarty...something very noticeable stock and still noticeable with the CL tune. The only area the CL is great is the bottom end. It's barely better than the Smarty though...not enough to really consider an advantage, and this is coming from a 6 speed owner! I can see other people arguing the price advantage of the triple dog, but when you are driving around in a $40k+ truck, a $200 price difference shouldn't be an issue.

People like to nit pick the smallest issues, and other than Luken, I don't think ANYONE has had a serious issue. Plus, with all of the great software updates that Marco is continually working on, any new smarty owner from this point on should be a 10000% satisfied buyer. You also have to remember the Triple Dog has been out much longer than the CR smarty, so those initial early release bugs from the TD programmer were discussed a LONG time ago...and trust me...they did exist. Just because you don't see people whining about issues now doesn't mean they didn't happen. Any of these products out have all had issues upon first release. The companies can never get enough beta testers to resolve issues that the thousands of buyers will face when it's mass produced.

i have had experiance with both the CL tune even the one with no TM. i got rid of that to get the smarty after testing the one lmills has. by far on my truck the smarty pulled harder and made more useable power. there was no comparison at all the smarty made more power hands down.

Well sounds great. But trust me my choice has nothing to do with money. As you can see I have got just about every upgrade you can think so Im just trying to get some peoples sensus. If I just agree with everything evryone says I wont get a great opinion. Look how good of a detailed description you gave me to prove your point. Thats what Im looking for. Im going to have to hit the dyno this week after I get my truck back to decide if I should stay with my boxes or change.

As someone pointed out, the #9 setting on Smarty adds 195+ HP on an '04.5 and up, NOT 170.

So the 90hp tune gave you 150+/- HP?????? Sounds like your truck is VERY different than everyone elses. Stock, most 600-610s dyno around 280hp, right?

Kind of the same thing I was thinking. That has to be the highest number I have heard for a truck with just BDDL, let alone on the 90 HP setting.
