New Predator Chip Goes on Sale
Wetspirit,
Thanks for the input. I am new to this site, as I am to the Dodge CTD, and am glad I found it.
From all I've read it seems the 2004.5 has the reputation for being the worst fuel consumer of all so far. Due in part, I believe, as the result of CTD trying to meet new emissions regs which in turn just complicates things.
I have also read so many different mpg reports, from 8 to 22, that it is hard to know what to believe. So, the only thing to do for now is just drive and see what the results are and go from there.
I am just trying to do some advance research for when and if the time comes to make an upgrade and appreciate your input.

Since everyone knows that diesels don't use spark plugs...ignition is determined by WHEN, how much, and the velocity the fuel enters the combustion chamber (velocity usually has a direct relationship on fuel droplet size...which typically become smaller with higher fuel rail pressures).
Therefore, "Timing" doesn't have anything to do with firing spark plugs but rather where the piston is (in degrees) in relation to TDC (top dead center) WHEN COMBUSTION BEGINS...

Since when did more pressure make the ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED injector fire earlier?
I am sure the Preadator works fine, but cut the smoke and mirrors. It is a pressure only module. You have to go to the ECM or the Cam and Cranks position sensors to alter timing in any amount that is significant enough to matter or be measured.
That is a FACT.
Although more fuel may get in the cylinder a nanosecond earlier, this is not technicaly "advancing timing".
The only way to Advance the timing is to trick the ECM into thinking the Cam and crank are not where they really are. This is why the early TST boxes set codes, it did not perfectly synch the cam and crank signals.
If your box does not plug into the Crank Position Sensor, and Cam Sensor, then it does not alter timing significantly enough to matter.
Even the "COMP" box for the 2nd gen 24v's does not significantly alter timing as the TST box can.

EDIT:
In Laymens terms...
The injection cycle starts at 12* to TDC, and ends at 10.5*
After a Pressure Box,,,
The injection cycle starts at 12* to TDC, and ends at 10.5 but because of higher pressure a small amount of extra fuel was able to be injected.
With a Timing box, The ECM *THINKS* it starts at 12*, but through smoke and mirrors of the box, the actual injection event may start at 15*, and end at 13.5*.
Make sense?

D.R. Peformance chip
I am new to this post and the Dodge CTD having been a Ford guy for years. I had a 2000 F350 CC dually with the 7.3PSD & a Superchip on it. The old truck pulled & my 40' car trailer far better than my new 04 QC dually. The acceleration is not there with the CTD so I am looking to install a performance chip mostly for hauling power. The local dealer here sells the Stage 2 & Stage 3 chip and claims its undetectable by the vehicles computer when the truck is brought in for dealer servicing. Is the Stage 3 ( 130HP ) safe for towing or am I better off with the Stage 2 chip - 85 hp ??
Thanks.
Thanks.

One other fact after I took off my edge ez after it was causing my truck to surge - very bad ! My truck was running rough even a week after taking the ez off, intalled the stage one predator and the truck got quieter & smoothed out - very nice power. I was impressed.

dr performance
i have posted this before but i will do it again. took my truck to dr performance here in wetherford tx and they put on the stage three and dynoed it i ended up with 396 rwhp and 727 fpds of tq. i am totally happy with this box power comes on great and the look on thse ricer car owners face when i blow past them is priceless. !!!!!!!!! injectors are next .

I had a similar problem w/ my last EZ box but only a surging at idle. They replaced the box immediately and I have had no problems since which is about 1 month.
I just dyno'd my truck and it was at 299.5hp and 554tq. I'd like to see about 40-50hp more but more-so I'd like to see my tq numbers go up. There were a couple of other trucks there with almost the same hp numbers but their tq was at 700ftlb+. One was a 1st gen and 1 was a 03 or 04 HO w/ EZ box. I'm thinking about upgrading to a different box soon as I just got a new VB and TC from DTT. I will consider this box...

Predator Box
Now can you turn that 130hp unit down and still pull with it? I think a post earlier said you couldn't pull with it and would have to go with the Lvl 1 or 2 box? What about your egts and boost,..do you have to upgrade the turbo to handle that Lvl 3?
d12 are you running a 305 or a 600? I have the stage 2 (100HP) box to test; only I haven't put it on the truck yet. Boy I would be really nervous about 130HP with pressure on a 305. yikes. that one (stage 3) connects to fuel pressure and MAP sensor, correct? they've gotta be awfully close to that pop-off point.

If you do not mind me asking, did you get your predator from a local dealer in Dallas? I am looking into get something like the predator, EZ, or the ramafier. Just wanted to talk to someone local about one before I spend the bucks on something different.
