Need help with Module decision!

I have been running a quadzilla XZT chip for about 4 years with a recon gauge. Recently the Recon gauge broke, so I am thinking of going to a full in dash monitor setup with a new module system. Then I get to thinking about just a chip with the essential gauges also.

I tow and I drive to work. I dont need the thing to make smoke, and do burnouts. I need something that gets good fuel mileage towing, and driving to/from work.

Some setups I have considered are the Quadzilla Adrenaline with the control pod. (can get this one for cheap).

Edge with the monitor thingy.(can get this one for cheap)

Banks economind with selector switch! (confused between power pack/stinger boxes).

I feel that the only important gauges I would want are egt, trans temp, and maybe boost.

I should add that my garmin ecoroute HD can pull codes and display quite a few ecm sensor values, but no egt or trans temp. It does have manifold psi though.

What can you guys help me figure out here?

Get a Smarty Jr. and get some gauges. Boost, EGT, and Fuel pressure or Tranny temp.

Module advice

I run the Smarty S-06 POD and really like the versatility of it. Like yours, mine is a daily driver and I tow with it; travel trailer, utility trailer, or boat with trailer. It did take awhile to 'find' the setups I wanted for running down the highway empty and towing dependent on load. My Smarty diary tells a myriad of tales. The Smarty JR is also a good setup so don't rule that out. The good aspect of the programmer style setup is the overhead fuel MPG stays close although I hand calculate that value over several tanks of fuel.

I run gauges galore as I'm involved in instrumentation at work. I definitely prefer analogue ones as I can at glance see the relative position of the needle and know what the vehicle is doing, but then I'm 'old school'. I also have them grouped together in what I consider the order of importance. Steering pod frog eyes - EGT & Boost which are in view with the factory dash gauges. Single A-pillar - Rail Pressure. Over rearview mirror - Air Pressure (exhaust brake), Fuel Lift Pump Pressure, & Engine Oil Pressure (factory gauge is a expected pressure from ECM unless oil pressure drops below a preset pressure, then the factory gauge drops to 0 , OOPS too late). No need for a tranny temperature with a 6 speed manual. I don't care that the EGT is 1053 degrees just that it is in the upper middle quadrant of the gauge. I adjust my driving to place the gauge needle where I like the vehicle to run. Probably start a digital vs analogue debate here, but to each their own choice.

Good luck what ever you do.

Im not a big fan of constantly dicking with the programming, I want something that I can just put in and it works well. I also have to be able to switch from a mpg tune for driving to work, over to a tow tune for hauling stuff. So as I understand it, the smarty is not an "on the fly" setup which is a big negative.

Any input.

WRONG!!!! Smarty Jr. POD. or Smarty S06 POD. If you have ever used a Smarty, you won't go back.

Timing is what generally improves mileage. The timing profile on the Jr is the same for all 3 software's, so no need to swap from economy to tow as long as you drive it smart. All Jr's have PoD where you can turn the power down on the fly.

But honestly power on the fly is over rated, I believe its best to get the power adder that does what you want the best and set it and forget it.

It has to stay plugged in to work PoD, but can be disconnected as well.

The S06 is for big power and mods, and the Jr is the smaller version.

I run a Smarty, that being said, for what you need I think the Smarty Jr from what it seems like you want to do. I run Autometer gauges and I don't have any problems with them. Decent for the price!

SO6 is for people who want to dick around as you say. Jr is for people like me - pick a program and go with it. But the masses are correct - Smarty or the highway
