Where are you in Va? I run a Magnaflow muffler but I also have a Banks 4" Downpipe and full 4" exhaust that I pieced together myself. I think it sounds pretty good but everybody has different tastes especially when it comes to Diesel exhausts...

I live in Dale City and work in Alexandria BTW...

doubledodge2003,

While the MBRP muffler is technically built for the 2004.5 and 2005 trucks it does fit the 2003/04's if you get an 3.5 to 4.0 inch adaptor fromm a local parts store. The 2003/04's have a 3.5 inch intermediate pipe while the later ones have a 4.0 so that's where you need the adaptor. MBRP is a large diesel exhaust manufacturer, we have been with them since day one on 2002 and sell tons of their products. The muffler has welded hangers and re uses the stock rubber mounts and is pretty easy to install. Has a good sound and is made of 409 stainless like the rest of the stock system from Dodge is. Give us a call if you want and we'll be glad to help you with any questions you might have.

Mark I ordered a Cat Back system for my 05, it's muffler is only around 15" long. What size is the replacement one for this truck?? My father has a 99 cummins and that system had a muffler that was around 30" long?? his is quieter than mine. The 15" really has a nice rumble to it, kinda like straight pipe, but quieter?? Wasn't sure what size the replacement mufflers for my truck are.

I run a 20" magnaflow and love it. As said in the past it is all a personal preference. My exhaust is relatively quiet at idle (louder than stock but not heard in the cab) then at full throtle off the line and it roars (in the cab it is a deep constant bellow). Upwards of 2500 RPM or so I love the look on the faces of those I screem past. I do have a 5" tip as well, but I do not know how much of a difference would be if I did not. It is not raspy after the truck warms up on the outside and not at all raspy nor does it have that "death drone" some have talked about if you were to straight pipe it. Been there done that, hence I moved to putting this muffler on it. I have also seen.5 to 1 mpg better with the magnaflow as well. just for your thoughts.

Is 20" the overall length or the body length on that magnaflow? How loud is it at 65-75mph?

I've been very pleased with the Flowmaster on my '03. No drone, flows more than stock, and not an annoyance on long road trips. Pics are in the gallery.

doubledodge2003,

That's the million dollar question, what's too loud for one is great to another! We have a 2004.5 here that has had a catectomy and the MBRP muffler and we think it sounds great, very mild when cruising and talks just right when you floor it etc.

TAS05CTD610,

If you have a straight thru muffler you wouldn't want the MBRP replacement muffler that fits the stock pipes, it won't line up correctly etc. What you need is the MBRP muffler that comes on the standard systems, it's 30 inches long and will quiet that system down for you. What brand of system is that, I am not familliar with any that have a 15 inch muffler?? You need to look and make sure you have enough straight pipe including the section where your current muffler is of at least 24 inches long. That way we knwo you can cut out more of the straight pipe after you remove the muffler you have now and the MBRP will bolt right in for you.

Mark,
System I have now is a MBRP sytem, cat back dual system. The muffler is pretty short, not exactly sure how short, but I know it's not 30". My dad's on his 99 was long, about twice as long. I'll try to post a picture soon, but it's short. Maybe it's 24 from the pipe to pipe, but the muffler body itself isn't longer than that. I love the sound just want to lower egt's a bit and keep the same sound (something to put in place of the cat) I'll get a picture and measure the muffler to make sure, I'm pretty sure it's not 30"

TAS05CTD610,

No if I remember it's 20 inches, you should be able to install a 30 inch MBRP in place of the cat. Do some measuring and let me know, you need 24-25 inches of straight pipe area to install it.

Shesssssh, off by 5 inches

I wasn't sure but that sounds about right. I was thinking if I take my cat off I wanted to place another 20 inch one in there, or just replace the one I have with a 30 inch one. I really do love the sound I have now and hate to give that up. My dad's is loud, you can hear the turbo and all but it dosn't have the throaty sound of mine. Hmmm, delimas I tell you
