mud tire vs all terrain

Im in the middle of looking for some 35's for my truck. I have looked at alot of different tires in the process. I really liked the mickey thompson mtz's until today i seen one that needed 35 ounces of weight to balance out.

I love the look of the toyo mt's. about 1250 a set to my door.
The toyo open country at 325-70 is about 950 to my door.

My personal favorite is the mud grappler 1100 door price
terra grappler 964 door.

I know that alot of people recommend the Toyo tires. I love nitto but everyone's oponion is different about them.

Does anyone run the new xtremes from procomp? Are these prices seem fair to average or cheapest i will find? I just dont want to regret my decsion on tires like these mud brutes that are all cupped up at 11k on them.

I have a set of 33 12.50 Nitto Mud Grapplers and I love them to death. They are aggressive and give the truck a really mean look. Im trying to get rid of them. You cant expect a good high mileage tire to be a mud tire. I have seen some Cooper STT's get 50-60,000 out of them. I have right at 12,000 on my Mud Grapplers right now and they are about 65%. I have never spun them it has all been highway. I have heard really good things about the Toyo MT's. And they do seem to hold up pretty good on the high way. The At's I have heard have the life span of the MT. Personally in my opinion if you dont need the mud tire dont buy it. I love the look but the noise and the fuel mileage drop in my opinion are not worth it. Some guys dont care. The fuel mileage isnt a problem but it was nice being able to squeeze 600 miles out of a tank.

I would personally go with a Mickey Thompson or Pro Comp tire if you are wanting a good tire for a good price.

The only problem with Pro Comp is that they get bids from different tire manufactures to make their tires. Whoever gives the best bid gets to make the tires which sometimes is a good thing and other times the Quality suffers from it

I like my Toyo MT tires, but it took a big hit on MPG. Not sure if I'd buy another set of mud tires, but if i did, it would be the Toyo MT. Smooth, quiet, and balanced. It took alot less weight to balance the 35" mud tires on my truck, than it did the 265/70R17 BFG AT tires on my wifes jeep.

Toyo AT tires look a little boring to me, but they are a great tire.

yo honestly cant go wrong with the open country m/t from toyo. great tire, wears like iron, look great, and from what i hear a very quiet tire. i know they are pretty expensive tires, but they are worth the money it seems. i hear nittos wear kind of quickly, but they arent priced too bad either.

personally when it comes to tires ill never go with anythingbut toyo or bfg. thats just me..

A friend of mine had pro comps on his F-250 but they wore down pretty quick... I don't know what kind of miles you expect out of them, but he was pretty dissapointed. I have had very good luck with BFG tires on everything from my '96 Impala SS to my 1956 VW Single cab truck. Just my .02

I have the Toyo M/T's on my truck and they are 38/15.50/18 and I have 35K on them they are the best tire I have ever had. They wear awesome and are quiet, also do great in everything i have ever had them in which is a lot. They are exspensive but well worth it. I still have well over 50% probaly close to 70%. Go with those you will be very happy, I am.

I had 35" Toyo MT's on my last truck. I'll probably buy them again for this truck. I've had BFG's on several vehicles, Goodyear MT's, Michelins, and some cheaper brands.

My personal favorite is the Toyo, even though they're the most expensive.

They are exceptionally quiet for a MT, providing you rotate them regularly. They will start cupping and get loud if you're not diligent.

Compared to my BFG 315's, I don't think there was more than .5 MPG difference on the highway in fuel economy.

Hopefully it's not you back there slingin' tires with what I'm about to say, but that's someone's inability to properly mount and balance a tire. That's 2 POUNDS of weight.
And if it couldn't have been done better than that, it was a defect and should not have been installed on a vehicle.

See if you can find compound ratings on the different tires you like. A softer compound will give you better on road traction but much faster wear, and conversely, a harder compound will last much longer but will have inferior on road traction - especially in the rain.

I run Toyo AT's and they're excellent... great treadwear, great wet/dry traction on pavement and pretty good in the mud and snow. They also ride like a dream compared to factory and are nice and quiet.

Yeah, that's a heap o' weight. I thought my p.o.s. BFG's had the record@ 10 oz. on one tire. I just had my Toyo AT's rebalanced and rotated and minimal weight was needed.
