well sounds like someone was using the overhead instead of hand calculating.

Last time I had alignment done the guy doing it and I got to talkin about my truck. Seems he had an 05' ctd with some mods. He asked about my mpg's and I said "yer not gonna believe it but even with all this crap on here i can squeeze 21mpg out of her with no wind going about 60mph..." He looked at me and said "what programmer did you say you had again?" I told him smarty jr.,explained all the features and gave him a long winded run down of DTR. Anyway to make a long story even longer I said "So you thinkin about gettin one?...eh?" He goes "Naw...with my bully dog I get like 28-29 in the city and even better on the HWY" I said "oh your using your overhead right" and he goes "yeah and the only way my wife lets me do this stuff to my truck is couse it keeps saving us diesel" I smiled and remembered two things. Ignorance is Bliss and A happy wife leads to a pimped out ride so I left and told him I would look into that bully dog

20s for me, ive ran a couple sets of 18 and 20 in. wheels and I like the 20s alot better I think. if you are going to run 18s might as well stick with stock wheels what do you gain by going to an inch taller wheel? no looks in my opinion

20 inch wheels

For gods sake! Near every full size vehicle on the road is now riding on on 20 inch wheels now. I will tell you that you will see in the near future that more tire companies will be designing larger diamenter tires. Just buy what you can afford, if you have the money go with the future technology. PERIOD

Every vehicle? Not even close!
You can't compare "future technology" being used on cars to one ton rated trucks weighing over 7000 pounds, PERIOD!

lots of 20" wheels have a high weight rating and there are tons of E load range 20" tires on the market. I have hauled a few size truck on 20" wheels and tires no issues that I could tell. ive got 20" wheels and they are rated @3420 lbs each I think thats pretty good rating probably as strong as the factory wheels

I said near every...eh Did you not read my post Fisher? Anyway I am pretty sure my Weld's are plenty strong. I'm not talking about "future technology" on cars, I'm saying that factory/aftermarket wheel companies are developing technology for 3/4 and 1 ton trucks too. By the way Fisher you running "D" rated tires or "E" rated? Got to make sure you go with the right range if you're haulin...

The ride in my truck was so much better with the 20's and 35 over the 35's on 17's. I miss my 20's on the truck. Going dually so my wheels will not fit the new truck. I have the 20" dick cepek dc-1 in chrome. I have a ad here and they need a good home. Give them a look there only 4 months old and REAL cheep. I'm going 19.5's on the new truck just to get closer to the 20's.

found some 18s

well thanks all for discussion. it comes down to $$ for me, I can't blow too much. Last week I found some 18s on ebay, set of 4 Raceline renegade 8x8.5, 5.25 backspace, $550 shipped. rated 3420lbs per. price too good not to take.

nope, they might not be the best or look the best, but willing to give them a try. looking at the trucks w/20s on the lot down at ATS, the ones with 35s on 20s still looked a little low profile. but then again those were 4" lifts or more. I have no plans for lifting more than the carli level kit I got (3" and now that I have it I'm not sure it was the right move, even).

I'll probably wind up with 33s, maybe 35s but was hoping to stick with less than 12.5 wide.

I still think 20s with 35s could be a good combo, there are several 20" wheels with 6" bs, that all look good, and lots of tire options. but wheels and tires were gonna cost me, sounds like mileage goes down, and also keeping the ride reasonable (not too harsh) is key.

cquestad, you nailed it on tires, when my cc cools off, I'll find some tires, hopefully the 4 for 3 price still avail in a week or two. I like the DC fcII, also thought BFG AT in 305/65/18 might work.

and maybe in a year I'll try 20s!

again thanks all -- zv
(and someone buy the DC-1s from Kory, he's a good guy. they just wouldn't fit my truck with the tires I wanted to run)
