I had the K&N my 04.5, and I pulled it off for my 06 (still all in a box at my brother's house). It sounds awesome. I never see any dirt or even dust though.

Talking about the microns now would that be why they can claim more HP cause its not filtering as much?? So basically allowing MORE air to flow?

Im new to the sight and new to the 3rd gen's (just retired my 96) and I am looking for an intake since well whoever I bought my truck from was using Fram paper filters, So I think its time to upgrade....

The reason that the AFE flows better is because it uses a 6" intake tube rather than the 4" that the K&N uses, and it is also a larger filter...but you will NEVER see a 50hp increase with just an AFE intake, so I don't go by the claims that a firm makes on it's products, especially since they don't have dyno sheets to prove their claim. I go by reliability and that's it...the K&N and silencer ring delete is a PRETTY loud setup...loud enough to drown out a tractor trailer turbo on the highway.

Thanks for the reply, I dont want to be the loudest nor do I need the best out there BUT I do want something that is going to be reliable and give it some extra sound and power. The truck is my work truck going to be on the road a lot and dont want to have a cheap thing that causes any problems now is there any particular reason why one should use oil over dry or vice versa? Looking into it I really like the S&B and the Volant both which seem to be similar but not sure if one or the other is oil or dry filter I think I would rather have dry just so I can take it off and vacuum it clean rather then degrease, clean, then reoil.

I run the K&N and love the sound it makes. Removed the silencer ring and added a resinator with a 5" tip. With the Power Pup set on performance, the sound and power are unreal. Just have to be a bit careful on the pedal so I don't blow that tranny. Only added the Mag-Tech trans pan to it for added fluid. Love the truck setup and there are plenty of K&N bashers out there but my torque tube is clean as the day I put it on. About 20K miles on it and will continue to use it.

That's my view on the filtering vs. flow comparison.
