When I did look into, I saw (2) white looking pastic pieces closest to the turbo. Not sure what they were. You are saying that in the middle of the intake tube, there is a black plastic piece with holes and you're saying to open that up and make a clear passage? What is the benefit of that and is there a chance of something getting to the turbines? Also, what exactly is a Torque tube? and what is the point of drilling those holes in the box making a SWISS CHEESE BOX? Simply drill holes and thats it?

Whats a Baffle tube.....WOW.....I am so new to the trucks, its not even funny. [tapdshut]

The thing about the silencer ring is, is that its so simple, it's easy to loose your patience. I wrestled with it for about 10 minutes one time and gave up because I didn't want to jab my impeller or anything. Then, a week later, I tried and ip poped out in about 30 seconds. You just have to be CAREFUL. I bet that one makes a one-of-a-kind whine dosn't it?

BUMP on the question I had a few posts up

$10+ s/h and you get this... very simple to do, no chisseling away at the stock baffle tube so it can be easily put back in...

Ok, so replace this, do the SWISS CHEESE BOX and thats considered a homemade COLD AIR INTAKE? Or do I still need to get an intake or is this just the much cheaper and same power alternative?

HorseHauler 03-19-2006 11:44 PM

by doing this and a swiss cheese airbox, you won't get the same amount of flow that you will with an aftermarket airbox, you still have the restriction of the stock filter.

Mopar72,
I want to say somewhere around 8.5" Just order Quantity = 1 (12") so that will be plenty, thats all I ordered. then cut it with band saw or chop saw to get it to fit

So whatever I do, It will NOT come close to an aftermarket intake or is it similiar? Get the pipe (baffle) cut holes in the intake box and thats all I can do to mod my intake box? Any noticable performance gain?

HorseHauler 03-20-2006 06:44 AM

There is no performance gain, just more turbo whistle. You might lower your egt's a bit but i'm not for sure as I do not have gauges.

So If I want turbo whistle, better cooling, lower egt's and performance gain, I am definetly going to need a REAL intake? I saw some AIR RAID on EBAY that replaces the baffle and a hi-flow filter, I guess that wont do much either, right?
1st link
2nd link

Also, what is the Best overall intake? Loudest sound, lowest egt's, best performance gain? This is all the stuff that came up on EBAY
