Rye... You've convinced me to make the jump... Only question I have is I'm fixing to do a full DTT transmission, duel CP3, airdog 200 and 60 or 100 nozzles at the end of the month... Should I wait till all of its on to get it from Les? And can I buy the tuner & tune from him?
I'd wait until you get the upgrades done to get a new tune. But I think the same and Rye to buy the V2 so it is ready to go. If you can, I think it would be interesting to data log while the truck is still stock and then data log after the hard parts are upgraded and then data log after the first new tune is written. Just for your own info to see how the hard parts changed the truck without the use of a programmer, if it changes things at all.
Rye, great thread, thanks for all of the info.. Couple of questions, (1) I have an 05 and patiently waiting on EFI Live release for it.. If I get the V2 now can I data log with my current tunes, practice building tunes, etc. etc. to get some user experience? (2) Are you able to tweak the tunes sent from Les if you want? (3) Once your truck is tuned what need is there for the V2 if you cant tweak custom tunes.. So, would it be better to get an auto cal?
I understand the custom tuner does not want his tunes getting out, but every tune must be adjusted for each truck as they are all different, right? Maybe I missed something? I'm not sure I really need the V2 once I'm tuned.. Please in lighten me, I'm a OCD perfectionist
and would always be wanting to tweak things, but how far can ya go once tuned?
Thanks

No need to but the V2 now it will not connect to your ECM (to the best of my knowledge)
Some tuners will unlock the final version for you. But it depends on the tuner and the situation. Their have been a few instances where people who have purchased unlocked tunes are now selling tunes themselves
. Some are trying to write in certain key markers if you will to try to prove or mark their tunes. It's pretty sad but people by nature are not always good. And it hurts the rest of us.
I was looking to go autocal just for the same reason why pay for the V2 and no use it, well I have changed my mind since my purchase. While I am not editing my tune I am checking my injector balance rates every month, data logging to try to understand how things work which has become very addictive, and also keeping it so when I add mods I can make sure they are worth their cost and not just marketing hype. Data logging with all these peramiters opens up new worlds of info. I also like the fact if I ever decide to tune I can, if the tuner I chose goes out of buisness I can still move on (not so with autocal) or if I trade the truck I can pull the V2 and sell it, cant really sell an autocal because it's not going to work on any other truck.
The sky is the limit as far as what you can do, but a tuner worth their salt is gonna lock it in. Now their are lots of things being tested and looked at right now so tuning may change, but a good tuner will take care of you or with the V2 you can tweak it yourself. This is only if you get an unlocked tune.
I would buy a V2 again no question.

Thanks Rye,
I knew I wouldn't be satisfied with only the autocal, everything you said makes perfect sense about purchasing the V2 over the autocal.. Thanks again, I will be getting a V2 when ever EFILive it's released for the 05's.. Now, only who to get a tune from? I like the idea of having one tune for the truck and maximizing inefficiency of it's installed modifications.. I'm not a puller or racer, I just like to scoot fast when I want to, but more importantly I want the truck to run the best it can..
Thanks a million!

Mileage is up to 16.54. This is my dd and normal drive to work. In 3 years I have only broken 16 once and I ussually get between 14.x and 15.x, and if it's in the 15 it is like .2 or .4. I think it will average out to be at least 1-1.5 to a max of 2mpg gain if i drive like a grandpa which to me is pretty darn good considering the increase in power and the decrease in smoke.
Great to hear to increase in mileage, Rye!
I just ordered the FlashScan V2 earlier today for my dad and have been speaking with Les about tuning his '06. Certainly looking forward to the overall increases!

Another mileage update, pulled the boat a few times and still got 15.7 this tank. If I even looked at the boat with my previous tuning I was in the low 13 range

Well since I am no longer in construction I dont tow a lot of weight anymore, and my boat is streamlined like a rocket ship and only weighs about 4500lbs on the trailer fully loaded.

And for the record that is NOT my house.

Yeah EFI has made me a believer, its just such a different beast really like a stock truck but with tons of power.
And for the Skeeter she does 76 mph GPS verified in warm water, but boy is she thirsty.
