Intake Baffles?

Dumb question here because I just can't believe I don't know, but what are the baffles in the intake tube for? Does it stop a vortex of air from accuring? I don't have them in my S&B, but what are they for in the stock tube?

In the center section of the tube they are for noise control.. In the bottom piece (right before the turbo) it guides the air into the turbo more evenly... Alot of people leave those alone. I did.

Yep noise only. Read it on another site a few years ago. I gutted mine when I first bought the truck. Had zero effect and not that much louder.

in the elbow coming off of the baffle section there is an "air guide" with more fins that direct air flow and keep a vortex from being created.

i don't have an enginering degree but how do the rings around the perimeter do anything but create turbulance???

My baffles and "air guide" are MIA. I don't think I'm gaining anything other than sound.

I don't have an engineering degree yet, but working on it. I can definitely tell you that the baffles would definitely reduce the flow significantly. The guide at the bottom wouldn't slow down the flow as much though.

Well, the baffled part at the elbo I knew was for air to flow more efficently, but the other baffles, I had no idea what they were for. Thanks guys.

Help removing baffles

Just got my truck about 2 weeks ago and was wondering how you take the baffles out. The silencer ring is already out but I'd like to get a little more sound from the turbo. I drive a 6.0L PSD at work and the only thing I like about it is hearing the turbo.

IMHO,The options with your 05 is you can either remove the center section and hacksaw the baffles out of get a torque tube that will replace the center piece.
I replaced the center piece with a piece from Airraid and left the baffles in the bottom piece in place.

You can pry the one end off the baffle section to gain access to the baffles and then glue the two pieces back together. That's what I did. As far as sounding like the 03 powerstokes, that will never happen but it does sound a little better.

Go to this site and you can buy a 5.5" intake tube for short money.

Thanks for the all the info. I know it will never be like the power stroke but then again thats why I went with the CTD. I wouldn't trade mine for a PSD anyday.
