II SPS 62/14 Toast
Silver -62-14 Turbo
I Love My Silver-62-14 it Has performed Flawless on my 2005 Dodge,. I have also Owned a HTB2 Turbo From HTT And it Was a Nice performer too.
Sounds Like an Isolated incident , an un-fourtunate one at that. Both Companies need to raise the level of there communication and marketing with there customers. I would like to here feedback from any Garret Turbos out there on 3-rd Gens and how they are performing. Timely responses to purchase questions go along way with me as we are so dependant on E-mail , in our desision making on these Turbo Choices much of the Time. So whom ever goes the extra step to work with the customer builds the strongest business base.

I was reading this thread and I cant help but think that if II were to know that this customer was unhappy with there service/product and telling a large percentage of there potential customers about his experience they would be worried. I wouldnt blame them either.. Im gonna be watching this thread to see how his situation will turn out and it could affect my future turbo purchase and there business..
BTW didnt mean to go too far off topic..

I think he's on to something, as the oil temp can spike really high when it hits that turbo, and the viscosity would dive with the increased temp.
Personally, I'll share the interesting experience that switching from CH-4 Rotella to Redline 15w-40 (circa 2003) gave me 2psi more boost consistently (sometimes 4 more!). Pretty amazing to see that from just just an oil change.
All that to say that the turbo probably cares a lot more about what oil you use than the rest of the engine does....

Funny you mention that. I know a guy who swears by using 15-40 and adds one quart of high end synthetic 20w-50 in the mix.

HEY, wait a minute now..... There are many here that still believe that Wal Mart oil will perform the same. They have oil analysis reports to prove.
Forget your over-priced synthetic. I just won't pay this much for oil, cause Wally brand is cheaper.

Give brett at II a call he will fix you up. Are you sure that the shop you had install the turbo and purchased it from actually ordered it or just had a use one laying around and threw it on a charged you full retail. I am pretty sure II turbos have a 1 year warranty along with HTT as well. How long have you had it?
CReed seems to think this thread should re-focus, and I think he is correct. Is the S300 turbo and all its variants worthwhile??
Should we just remain stock unless we can unleash 20k+ for top tier everything??
That is just a little bit surprising coming from you. You know I respect your opinion. Have you actually studied the synthetics, or tried them? C'mon, you must be aware of the differences.

As for trying or studying them: Yes, I have. I have read hours on synthetics and the benefits and molecular structures of true synthetic oils. I also know I lost a charger running synthetic 5w40....
To each his own. The reasons for some of us running heavier engine oils are the same reasons our differentials use molasses as a lubricant (85w140).
Not only does the heavier oil offer superior bearing protection in the turbo charger but also offers a good insurance for the camshaft which is also burdened with load in a modified Cummins pickup.
Back to the S300......
Not saying weather II is good bad or in between but your fight is with the vendor you bought it from! MAKE HIM warrantee it, he's the one that sold it to you. Let him fight it out with II! JMO Good luck to ya!!
I just got back from a short vacation to the coast. Thanks for all the reply's, I thought I would have internet access at the coast and would be able to repond to all the posts but no luck. Anyways I have tried to get the shop that ordered and installed the turbo to do the negotiations with II but it doesn't seem to be working. It's a great shop and I really like the owner and the mechanics but they seem to be between a rock and a hard place with their relationship with II and would rather I handled the problem. Thats OK with me because I get right to the point and don't mess around. I paid for a SPS 6280 and have paper work to prove it. I received a cobble of used parts that identifies itself as a regular phatsaft 62 but isn't. It has grinder marks all over it and looks terrible and has cracks and leaks everywhere. Won't make any low boost and with all my mods can't break over 32psi with a boost fooler. Can you say POS?
Look, I know that mistakes happen and sometimes a less than perfect product gets shipped. What makes a good company is how they deal with these kinds of problems. I am looking forward to discussing person to person with II tomorrow and see what they have to say. From what the shop owner is saying it may not be good but I am prepared for that and I hope it doesn't have to be that way. I have had this turbo less than 4 months and it is trashed. I believe it was trashed from the begining because my performance level, temps, and boost are exactly the same as day one.
On a side note I am being told by the shop owner that II said that the new Predator is the only box that will properly run the fuel curves on my truck and that has been my problem from the first mod. And they also mentioned the Quad race is probably the root of all of my problems. And the Smarty doesn't work either. Apparently there has been some sort of breakthrough in the last few weeks on 06 trucks like mine that don't seem to respond well to programmers or boxes. Any info appreciated, Thanks Tom J.

We have small claims court in Canada....I'm a super nice guy...I try to deal fairly than I go to court...I've never had an issue not resolved quickly...other than dealing with ....Hmmm. Can't cross borders with small claims. It is not bad mouthing a company if they obviously sent you a rebuild. A companies product must speak for the company. As far as the predator....it is probably a fine box....that is in the II family of friends. Kerry
