HTT 62/71 ?'s

I just installed a HTT 62/14/71 along with a ATS manifold on saturday. Unless I'm doing something wrong I am dissapointed. I realize this is a bigger turbo but it spools nothing like stock, not even close. When i used to cruise at 70-75mph my boost was around 5-8 psi and now i'm seeing 2-4 psi and this is on a flat road. As i'm rowing through the gears I occasionally see 6psi just driving normally where i used to see up to 14. Is this normal or does there sound like something is wrong. Even when I gun it it just doesn't seem like the turbo wants to light. It will gradually go up but never any big jumps. I just wanted to know your guys opinion and if this sounds normal. Thanks.

The low boost numbers while cruising are completely normal.Once you get it to around 10lbs or so it should take off if your hammering down. Not familiar with the predator box levels.Have you turned it up and jumped on it?

No I haven't had a chance to turn it up yet. I made a trip down to DC today with about 1800lbs of year books on the back today and haven't really had a chance to fool around with it. Once it does hit 10lbs it still doesn't jump it gradually climbs to 20 then goes quickly to 30+ but it doesn't jump. Could the waste gate be stuck open? I wouldn't think I'd be able to see 30+ if the gate was stuck open though.

Add more fuel and see how well it works for ya. No sense trying to fill a sail through a straw.

With stock-like fueling they dont light real hard, just kinda gradual like you are talking about. The cruisung PSI etc. is all the same as mine. I leave my Smarty on 7 or 9 all the time and it makes that turbo hit HARD after 12-14 PSI it is instantly 45+. Your cruising EGT is also probably 100-150 deg higher too. It is a performance turbo and needs to be fueled like one. I doubt there is any defect with the turbo, you just arent throwing enough fuel to it. Crank up that predator and I bet you will be grinning when it just keeps pulling hard all the way to the redline.

Need more fuel, got it! Looks like I'll turn up the predator. I just wanted to make sure I didn't anything wrong. I guess this wasn't the turbo to get for economy huh? Oh at least i can still have fun with it.

The reason you see less boost at cruise and part throttle has nothing to do with spool. That turbo is much more efficient and flows a lot more CFM so it needs less boost to do the same amount of work that your stocker did. If you stomp the throttle down it will spool just as fast if not faster than your stocker. Providing you have enough fuel. By the looks of it you are running the same stack I had or at least very similar.

I didn't get a chance to bump up the predator yet, but i had another trip to DC today and changed my driving style a little and let me tell you it made a big difference. I was just so worried about fuel milage i was afraid to give it a little throttle. I really got on it going up a on ramp and it threw my buddy back in the seat. I am very impressed performace wise with this turbo now that know how to drive it. staarma what settings do you have your edge j/a and your predator on and what kinda milage do you see?

I speed around with the Hot Juice on level 3 (I have the newer one so I have 6 levels so 3 is the standard level 3) and the EZ on level 1 and no Diablo tune at this moment. On Winter fuel I have been getting about 14.5 at the pump with a 16oz. grey bottle of PS every fillup. That driving is mostly to and from work and pulling my enlcosed snowmobile trailer up and down the canyon every weekend. I haven't run a Diablo tune it for a while. Whne I did I had the tow tunes with no timing and then some puff and RKL tunes with no timing. It made nice power but hot power. I'm going to try a Smarty once we get through spring breakup.
