just an update for those interested. timer is now working perfect. traced trouble to my edge juice box with low amp signals on two of three legs. juice is off power pup back on and all is well. many thanks to howard, when email fineally caught up to him he reached out post haste and helped me think through the system. works wonderfully, why did't i do this when i bought it new.
