How much power wil the stock input shaft hold?
How much power wil the stock input shaft hold?
How much power can the stock input, output, and intermediate shaft hold. I have the ats triple lock and the vb and love to run my juice on 5/5. I have been toying around with the idea of the the hot juice or maybe a pressure box stack. I dont do four wheeel drive 20psi launches or sled pull but enjoy messing with occasional jackass on the freeway. How much will these shafts hold and those of you who have broken them what were you doing at the time? A big thanks in advance.
From what I'm told, as long as your not doing over 10 psi power braking launches then they should hold for a very long time. Now, as with all things in life, this is not always the case. Some bust very easily, some take an insane amount of abuse before giving up the ghost. The ouputs are the weakest of the three. But those are easily changed on the side of the rode so I'm told. If your short on cash, then buy the billet shafts one at a time. First the output, then the input, then the intermediate.
JUST MY 2 CENTS, BUT BUY THE INPUT FIRST, IT IS THE WEAKEST.
I WOULD NOT WORRY TOO MUCH THOUGH, YOU WILL BREAK THE FLEXPLATE
FIRST ON A 2005. THIS IS MOST DEFINITELY THE WEAKEST LINK.
IT DIDN'T USED TO BE BUT I THINK THE METAL PROCESS GOT CHEAPER
BECAUSE THEY LOOK DIFFERENT PRE-600'S.
I HAVE ALSO DONE A LOT OF METAL HARDNESS TESTS ON ALL THE SHAFTS
WITH INTERESTING RESULTS. JUST BECAUSE IT'S A HARDER MATERIAL
DOES NOT MEAN IT IS STRONGER OR WEAKER.
IF YOU DON'T LAUNCH IN 4 WHEEL DRIVE OR LOCK THE CONVERTER DOWN
AT TWENTY MILES AN HOUR WITH A LOCKER I WOULDN'T WORRY TOO MUCH.
IT STILL COULD GO BUT THE CHANCES ARE SLIM.

when i was talking to John Rodriguez on AIM, he said he has done many 20PSI launches on the stock shafts with no problems, and he seems to have a "powerful" stock truck with around 1000tq
