How much does it Cost?

So I bought a New muffler, I thought I'd give the Rokktech Silent Might muffer a chance. Definitly a big bugger, compared to stock anyways. Its a 4" in and 4" out muffer and the directions are clear and explain how to adapt it to the 2003 w/ 3.5 inch front pipe.

Since I hate the idea of restrictions I am entertaining the thought of upgrading the front 3.5" Pipe to 4" as well.

It just so happens that the exhaust shop has a 2005 downpipe that was left over from another aftermarket exhaust job.

My question is will any newer turbo elbow fit my truck? Any idea how much $$$ these turbo elbows are directly from Dodge? Is there an aftermarket alternative? I hate the idea of going to the dealer to make mods to my truck but I guess I'll do it if I have to.

I seen somewhere that the dodge part number for the turbo elbow is 5161570AA

Will coming directly off the turbo with 4 inch make the turbo spool up much faster?

Thanks for any help

I would definitely get the 4" downpipe, especially since the price is probably right - you won't regret it.

if you arent sucking the air in, your turbo wont spool quicker at all. You need to be getting air in just as much as you need to get it out. This is why with 5" exhaust on a stock truck, you lose a ton of low end because you are trying to flow a lot of air without the intake to do it.

if you have an intake, go for it. on the stock intake you will definitely lose some bottom end.

Brambles: Dodge upgraded from 3.5" to 4" downpipes for a reason - same reason plenty of guys pushing big #s aren't running 5" exhaust. Flow velocity is where it's at; small exhaust with too much backpressure or huge exhaust with insufficient speed are both undesirable.

Thanks for the info guys, right now my truck is stock with the exception of the Rokktech sensor and a couple 3" holes in the airbox that the previous owner had drilled, am I gonna loose low end grunt if I swap out the 3.5" front pipe for a 4" jobbie on a essentially stock truck or am I still going to be O.K..

I might do some more mods later down the road but nothing planned right now except for the exhaust and maybe some sort of further airbox mod.

Thanks, I'm gonna get some prices on the parts and if you guys say I won't loose any lowend grunt then I'll get them sent.

I'm eagerly awaiting your responses

Brambles,
What's the build date on your truck. Some of the very early built '03s had the 4" turbo elbow. If so you will see the exhaust pipe neckdown from 4" to 3.5" just behind the mormon clamp.

my build date is 1/03 which is early for 03 but they would have started building them in 02 right?

My turbo elbow looks like it tapers and the number on it is E4-01-129.

I see where the flared flange is welded on to the end of the downpipe and it doesn't look reduced so I think I got the small one.

I priced out the turbo elbow at $68 canadian and the 4" stainless downpipe and a 18.5" section of stainless 4" that the shop had left over from another job was $50 under the table. So all I need now is the turbo clamp which is on order and we are all ready to go

I'll have to start another post to see what mild box to use with my setup

Right. Somewhere right after mine was built (10/02) they switch to the tapered elbow.
