Wanting to build one of these but I do not have access to a welder? Will the parts fit together normally and will the flanges create turbulence inside of the intake?

Also, how stable is the rubber to hold the IAT sensor and the other sensor?

I am really trying to talk myself into this and need some pointers.

if you did the whole intake yourself and now you want just a shield, that is fine too......

What size clamps did you use to secure the tubing?

Mine's been on for over 3 years, sensor is in rubber elbow with the stock screws.
Had it all clamped up and installed in about 20 minutes.
Nothings welded, never even made a mount for my filter yet, it just rests in there. One of these days I'll fab one.
Many miles, and road trips with no problems.

Malfunction light on..

Installed the "whistler" had no problems, welded an aluminum block on tubing for sensor. It went easy and couldn't of been a nicer DIY mod. My malfunction indicator light is now on. Is that something that will work it self out , maybe re calibration of all the new air to the system? Or should I be sending it in to be scanned. Anyone else have similar outcome?

Thanks

Patrick

Im ordering my "kit" tomorrow. I just wanted to know how it sounds running down the highway... I do a LOT of highway- sometimes towing, sometimes empty... I definitely want the better intake and sound, but I dont want to listen to a constant high-pitched whistle for 6 hours a day... Does it quiet down some in the 1700 - 2200 range? Or does it jsut sing all the time?
Thanks for the replies... I have read several several pages... but I'm sure i've missed this question being asked already.

Ive had my "whistler" on for a while now, and it is loud. At highway speeds it will start to annoy you, as it will whistle the whole time. It sounds like a semi in the cab.

I have the Airaid Cold Air Intake. Mine is not that loud. Anyone know if it is the filter or the tube that makes certain intakes louder than the others ? Would putting an amsoil or AFE filter on mine make it any louder ? Thanks

In the 1st thread: https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...d.php?t=129265 53 ****** says he thinks the filter inlet size makes the biggest difference. That's why he chose a 6" filter instead of a smaller one.

As for noise towing, on the highway I find that you really get used to it after awhile. If your towing with it, I found that putting the silencer ring back in it cuts down on the sound a little bit.

Collapsed Filter

Anyone have an issue with the Amsoil filter collapsing? I made my WW when I got the truck in 2009 and I love it but today while doing the oil change I took off the pre-filter and found this

My truck is a stocker '05 so no crazy turbo setup sucking in air and no off roading mostly highway through the normal Dallas traffic and construction. I was going to buy another, it did last almost 5 years, but just wanted to make sure there isn't something restrictive about the Amsoil filter others are finding. I was thinking either I need to vacuum it out more often have been doing it every oil change or so or maybe the weight crushed it. I don't have this thing supported or tied into anything.
