HMR Street Drag DD chirps

Is it normal for this clutch to chirp when you down shift. If you don't let the clutch out right it will chirp to. It is not sliping gust making werird sound.

Chirping rubber?

# 1 FAN 03-02-2009 10:32 AM

No the clutch makes the sound.

Megadeth 03-02-2009 10:34 AM

# 1 FAN 03-02-2009 11:13 AM

Mine has always been quiet on engagement. The street puller with the sintered iron pucks will chirp, however. Not sure what the issue is.

Its only going to get worse. It started 6th to 5th then progressed from 5th to 4th. Now it sounds like I have a squealing pig in my bellhousing when I pull out in 2nd gear.

I know what caused mine. My flywheel is so blue you can see it through the little hole in the bottom of the bell. :o Too many 3rd gear launches at the track with 35's I was too lazy over the summer to take my smaller track tires and I have now paid the price :(

If it annoys you that much, when downshifting try blurping the throttle to rpm match the shift. It does not squeal then.

Is it something to worry about. The truck is now to me it has 2,500 on the clutch. I have another ?,the clutch does not engage until the last 2-3 inches on let out of the pedal is this normal?

53 willys 03-02-2009 02:44 PM

hey guys this is my old truck he's talking about...
I never even did a 3rd gear launch with this clutch or the stock clutch.

I never had a DD before this one so I assumed it was normal from what I have heard from other people?

it has chipped since install...it did not do it all the time on me..only when I shifted or launched weird.

that clutch should e in great shape I hardly even drove on it.
it for sure takes some getting used to..

Brokenarrow 03-02-2009 02:50 PM

It's fine Haisley's will do that...

53 willys 03-02-2009 05:36 PM

Don't forget this is a SOLID hub clutch....it's all business!! :-)

Mark You get your race project?

Nsomniac05 03-02-2009 07:41 PM

i got a SBC DD and it does that too. and if you let it coast and your speed gets too low for your gear it kinda does a mixture of a little chirp and a little rattle. I thought it was a bad thing after i got it broke in, but i realized after a while that the clutch still holds fine, you just gotta not put it in those situations if you dont wanna hear the noise.
