Help! Overboost code/limp mode 64 Turbo

I'm having problems with a new turbo. Installed it and at first it spooled great, went up to about 38 PSI, perfect egt's, etc.

A day or two later I started having problems. At first it threw 2 codes: Low Boost and overboost. When it threw the 2 codes, it went into limp mode- wouldn't spool, maxed out at around 19 PSI. The first couple of times, I just reset the codes, and everything was fine.

Then things changed again. Now, I only get an overboost code, but my gauge only shows 24 PSI max. It also spools like CRAP- pedal on the floor and only 5 psi or so, it used to spool like a stocker. Clearing the codes doesn't seem to help. (why would I get a high boost code with only 24 psi??)

I'm thinking that the wastegate might be stuck open now? Any ideas on how to fix this, I'd really appreciate any help.

Thanks!

Check the connections on your mods at the MAP sensor. Which one is doing the boost fooling? Might be one of the boxes pooping out on ya. May be a bad stock map sensor as well. With the low boost and overboost code it would sure seem to be an electrical problem. Don't know much about the aftermarket turbos , but did it come with the plug in to fool the ecm for the electronic wastegate actuator? Or does it still utilize the electronic wastegate actuator? Still , gut says electrical.

EZ is doing the boost fooling, its brand new so I hope its not toasted allready. The turbo didn't come with an electric wastegate hookup, so I'm looking at attempting the resistor mod.

Hey guess what...EZ doesn't boost fool on 04.5+ trucks! Throw a Quadzilla boost fooler in there too.

Well that explains part of the boost issue. I'll have a Quad boost fooler tomorrow, hopefully that will help out.

You may need the resistor plug too. Order one from II to be safe. It isn't too much $$

The Quad boost fooler got rid of the High boost DTC, but it still spools horribly.

The wastegate is mechanical, and the computer plug was just spliced into itself. I've taken out the splice and put in a 100 ohm 1 watt resistor, still no success. I've still got a 150 ohm, 1/2 watt; 150 ohm, 1 watt; and 100 ohm 1/2 watt resistor to try. Any other ideas? (I've got a "real" resistor on order, but track night is tonight :-p )

As long as you have no codes then the electronic wastegate controller harness is not your problem. A lot of resistors will satisfy the ECU. It should in no way effect the spool of your mechanical wastegated turbo. You have something else going on.

Thats just what I was thinking.... but hoping wasn't the case (wishful thinking). I'm going to tie the wastegate closed- maybe its just sticking open or something.

I had to clamp the hose closed on the HTB2 when I ran it on my 07 too. Without that clamp I could not make more than 30psi. With the clamp I was able to easily reach 45psi. I thought the wastegate was stuck open but when I pulled the turbo off it was definitely not stuck open....

Did you remove the stock solenoid from the turbo and plug it in and then zip tie it off to the side somewhere.....if not then thats what you can do to prevent this from happening.
