grid heater Q??
Well, there is power going to the grid, right? Probably a sensor, too, telling the computer if it is working or not (if the circut is complete or not). If you remove the fins, it might pop a code.
I would: Remove the power line going to the heater grid and isolate it... remember, there is a lot of juice going to that thing...
Drive around for a day or two, see if it throws a code. If it doesn't, rip them out.
If you rip them out, before you button everything down again, put the heater back on and turn the key on. (before you put the manifold back on) (Don't start the truck) Make sure nothing bad happens. I'd use 2 people, so that they could cut the power quick. If nothin happens... you're good...

1st, I'd price a new grid heater, just incase when you pull the fins out, it jacks something up. If it's not worth it to ya, then...
2nd, Remember that you'll be working with the top of the intake off... if something falls down in there...
it'll be bad. I usually use a piece of tape to cover the hole... make sure nothin gets in the intake horn or tubes...
I have not done this, so I dunno if it will work or not.
I seem to have remembered someone else doing this... I'll look...
LMK what you do...
