Going to buy a 3rd Gen. CTD
My father is interested in a new 3rd gen. truck. What options do you like or dislike and has the poor fuel mileage been worked out?
What Performance items seem to be working out the best?
Is the 48re holding up with small increases in power?
TIA

There are so may options that I like about my truck but I'll try to keep it short and name a few.
The auto-dimming rear view mirror is great! I've never had one of these before so that makes it even better. On the freeway at night, cars behind you look like thier headlights are green and you can see them perfectly, no squinting!
I have the cd/cassette/AM/FM Infinity sound system. It doesn't get super loud but sounds pretty good and has lots of adjustments right there easy to access.
I don't know what they're for, but the clearance (testosterone) lights make the truck look really cool IMO. However, some have had leaks when it rains.
The power towing mirrors are great too. The built-in fish eye is nice too. If you're trying to park next to a curb and don't want to scrape the tires, you can just power adjust the mirror down and see the curb/tire situation perfectly.
I havn't bombed yet so I don't know what good performance items are and I don't know anything about the 48RE.

I much prefer the 305/555 engine for it's simplicity and cleanliness. I'd look for a late 03/early 04.
If you're looking for performance, expect to dish out some change for the 48RE to handle it over the long haul. Everyone I've ever heard say they were planning 'mild' mods ends up doing more and more over time. It's addicting! The 6spd requires a lot less $ to handle high HP, but of course you lose the convenience.

I have an edge comp box on mine and would like to get something similar for his new truck.
It will have the 600 in it.
Should I stick with Edge?
I dont know much about the performance products for the 3rd. generation trucks.
Thanks again

Wilson, why would you possibly get a 600? LOL. I guess the dealers are running out of 305/555's at this point. I can't see a single advantage of the 600 over the 305, especially if you are already thinking of adding power..
ON the other hand , the new 48RE might have the updated thrust washer and there's a CHANCE you could be EB compatible, but don't hold your breath..

Would have got a 305 but there are no more new ones. Just picked it up and hour ago. 2005 graphite quad cab shortbed 4x4.
Since it is my fathers, just a slight programming change would be just fine, he doesnt care about having tons more power(hasnt been bit by the bombing bug) just something that gives it a little bit more with maybe a bit better mileage if its possible.
Suggestions anyone???

Let me be the first to say congrats on the new truck! 555 or 600 , it's a sweet truck and should last many years. I personally don't believe there are any mods that truly increase mileage significantly, certainly not enough to offset the cost of the mod. That said, most of us have dumped a lot of money into our trucks anyway, I believe it's a disease!
