Fuel system upgrade on an '05, Need help from knowledgable guys

Hey guys,

If you look at my recent post(s), you will see that I think I have a problem with my stock '05 lift pump.

Even if I don't, I want to be able to use the power Edge Juice w/attitude can deliver on level 5 safely. So I know I'll need to upgrade my fuel delivery, and, my trans (and other things later on).

SO, I've searched and read many things on lift pumps, '05 intank models, dumb arguments, etc. And I'm more baffeled then I was.

SO, my question to you knowledgable guys out there is, for me to upgrade my fuel system to a RELIABLE setup on a normal budget, what do I need?

What is weak in a stock fuel system for an '05? How do I correct it before it becames a problem? I also am planning on a bit more power in the near future, so a 150gph would probably be a better choice for me (vs. a 90gph pump).

I am basically looking for a list of parts I would need to upgrade to make the system work good/reliable/adaquate.

Thanks A LOT,

Regards,

Igor.

The problem is, i am not new to hot rodding...but i am pretty new to diesels.

That's why I need help. Like I said, i read a lot about it, and with mostly arguments and name calling, I learned nothing. So for me, for an '05, to be reliable, i need advice.

Thanks.

Ok, so doing more reading, I guess a 95 gph (FASS setup anyway) would be more then enough...

I'm also looking for something that will come with most of the parts needed to set it up. I am not scared of fabbing things up IF they are a better choice...but they gotta be a better choice.

Ohhh... I'm not making fun of you Igor. I've said so much about fuel systems lately, I thought I would keep my mouth shut and let other people discuss it with you. Which I am sure they will. Nothing against you at all. We were all Diesel/Cummins newbies at one time.

I am reading a lot of your posts on a few different sites, you are right, A LOT of info....

Well, since I do not plan on 650hp, i think any aftermarket pump would probably be adaquate. I just think that right now the truck is not getting the fuel it needs.

Lately, it feels like the power is not as "smooth" as it was on higher levels with the edge...again, points to fuel.

I would like to see an honest 450hp though one day. I also want to find something that will allow me an "easy" fuel gauge fitting as well. The Fass looks good 'cause its easy to install. But some say it runs hot..... can't win.

If you want my spiel, I'll answer any questions you have in the Implementing the Walbro thread. If not, I understand.

I've used a Walbro pump in the past on a BBC, and a couple of holley blues and one red. All 3 have been good.

But back then I had time to fab/install my own stuff. Now, I get to town here and there...for a day or two.

Basically, I want to collect all the parts I need for a hopefully trouble free install...on a normal budget. So what exactly would I need to install a walbro on my '05, and, what would I have to remove/mod in the process?

Seeing as how you have an '05 cumminz setup, I assume it should be pretty much the same.

Thanks,

Igor.
