Fuel Pump
Fuel Pump
I have an 06 with the BHAF, muffler delete and the Superchips 3805 on the performance tow setting, should I be worried about the in tank pump? If it is a sure thing that I will have problems I would prefer to replace it now,but I don't want to if these are just isolated cases that I have read about.
Nice work, Gypsyman! Dodge had this golden opportunity for redemption for causing so many lift pump problems in the past, but instead managed to mess things up once again with such a BS design. Way to go DC!
Other than an aftermarket pump I don't know. As I said in the write-up, the pump is capable of around 18 psi but the only way you'll ever see it would be to remove the "H" shaped bypass and install new straight thru feed and return lines. I don't know how long the pump would live like this though. If I ever get caught up around here I may set the pump up as a stand alone and torture test it at 15 psi just to see how warm it gets and how long it lives. Even dead headed it's still bypassing at least half of it's flow just to open the bottom feed valve so in essence it's never really dead heading.
It sure would be a cheap fix for the '05-'06 trucks. A couple of hours time and about 5 bucks worth of hose and clamps would do it.
I don't recommend it. You didn't hear it from me and I'll swear until my dying day that it wasn't my idea!
Anyone gutsy enough to try it?
