I hate to flame a guy but If you were so happy with ford why did you switch to dodge. Don't blame the dodge for poor mileage when you have a huge lift and big tires and a chip. all those things use more fuel. alot of people believe chips save fuel. but in my experience with diesels: To make more power in diesel you need two things- more boost and more fuel. The chip gives more fuel by way remapping the fuel delivery. Just my 2 cents. Sorry to rant.

The truck in my signature gets a good average of 20 mpg with steady 65mph highway driving. Back to 17 to 17.5 once on two lane roads with some stop and go mixed in. Stock size tires properly inflated, and sensible driving habits. Your truck is not setup, and likely not being driven to provide economy. It may also be rebeling for the repeated Pro-Ford comments you've been making....

it seems that you wanted a "nice" looking truck with a whole lot of power, nice and whole lot of power and good economy sometimes do not mix,

there are many makers of performance do- dads out there, you should educate yourself on how it works before making a purchase, here and the TDR is a good place to start. also ford's v-8 diesels are totally a differnet animal than from cummins strainght 6

again not to flame just to help or i believe ford jr. would love to have your business....

My mileage went in the crapper recently.... The reason.... I added 35" tires.... Heavy and wide... Load E... These suckers really eat up the diesel. Just from a standing start, as I accelerate, the boost guage moves accordingly... This is driving easy. Much more load on the engine. Much more boost... Much more fuel being used... I've lost at least 4mpg on average. And my tires are for sale... Less than 2000 miles on them... Any takers?

ANYBODY HAVE ANYTHOUGHTS OR SHOULD I GO BACK TO FORD
Since you just bought it and you don't know much about it, start with the basics. Air filter, fuel filter and run a good injector cleaner for a couple of tanks of fuel. Make sure the speedo is calibrated for those big tires. Not much you can do about the lift unless you want to lower the truck and you probably bought it partially because of the lift so that's most likely out. Remember that the late model CTD doesn't like 70 mph and above for fuel mileage. The guys running 60-65 typically report the best mileage.

Well I got my power and MPG's back. I added a Roktech sensor. But I am running 33's. What a great cheap performance mod.

I have 06 with 4500 miles and get about 14 in town, 12 towing, and finally got a chance to see what the hwy is last weekend. about 450 miles here in montana so it was not flat driving, 19.6 hand calculated. drove about 67-68 most of the time. Did slow to 55 for a little bit because of the SNOW STORM!!!. I was really happy because I have not seen any thing close to that milage yet.

i put a 2" spacer kit and 35"s on and i was getting about 13mpg. granted that was only with 1k miles on the truck.. since then i added an AFE intake, strait piped my exhaust, make sure im at 60psi in the tires, and run diesel kleen or marvel mystery oil in every tank, and i now see an average of 16-17 mpg.. (SRW, crew cab, auto with 3.73 gears) i dont mash the gas all the time but i do get on it hard in tunnles and freeway metering lights.. :-)

I have gotten as high as 21.7 mpg

I drive 20 miles one way to work. It is a limited acess road for about 2/3 of the run with the speed limit of 55. The other 1/3 is 50 mph. I have gotten 21.7 mpg when that is the only driving I do. In combination driving I have gotten 18 to 19 most of the time, hand calculated. I just came off a run pulling 9,440 pounds of enclosed cargo trailer and averaged 12.1. I find if I keep it below 2,000 rpm I get really good mileage for such a powerful and heavy truck. My problem is I like to show up the fords coming off the ramp onto the interstate and blow their doors off. Sort of drops the mileage down a bit then. I had a Ford diesel and blew the thing up with only 132,000 miles on it and they laughed at me for wanting them to do something about it. No more Fords in my stable, I love this Dodge.
