Cool. No worries. My popping is completely different from what it sounds like most are experiencing and I am just curious if the revised programs would fix it.

Mine only acts up from low RPM in 1st gear, and only when I punch the throttle nearly to the floor...it will sometimes give one or two quick and loud pops/bangs, almost like a backfire, stumbles for a fraction of a second, then smooths out and pull hard to redline. I have no idea what's causing it. However, if I lay into it smoothly and get past the low RPM where it's doing it, there's no problem at all. Very odd to me.

What you are experiencing is a lack of fuel popping, draining the rail.

Christian, I don't know about yours... you seem to have an exception to the rule. Marco gave me one of the first TNT/r's... when I got the popping he knew immediately what was wrong, wrote me a custom tune and popping gone. He said it was timing and backed it out for me.

Slimerept:

You can do what you want and if it works good for you then great, that's peachy.

But there are many others that read this thread and may run out to their truck and do this without knowing the inherent dangers involved and tear their truck up needlessly. Those same folks then come on here and start shouting what a POS the smarty is and how it tore up their truck. We want to be responsible in the posts and make sure everyone is knowledgeable about what they are getting into; especially something as potentially damaging using the shift defuel option. It is not a bash against you.

I wondered that, but the odd thing is I haven't noticed the RP gauge showing a drop in pressure. Is it happening so quick that the gauge can't pick up on it, or I've perhaps just missed it as it's only done it a few times. If it's a drop in RP, I'm assuming a twin CP3 kit will remedy it...Evil Twin's kit is on the way.

I posted this same post on the cummins forum and two guys already posted that this took away their poping.

And when it comes to rail pressure, I can pin the guage at 27.5 very very quickly with the help from my edge ez, and it never drops. I can just tap the gas on the freeway and the pressure jumps to 25k. The pump I have is a custom pump from shane, but not stroked like a stage 3. So I know it has nothing to do with fuel.

You only have a stage 1 pump, which isn't more than the Arson kit and you have stock injectors. The issues I have differ from your fueling or lack of issue. I have plenty of fuel stg 2+ pump, and DDP 90s, the popping I get are at WOT downshifts, like hitting a rev limiter not a running out of fuel pop and shutter. I'm glad your truck runs to your liking, but just wait til the Smarty gets revised for TNT/03-04s then you'll know what your missing w/ timing and power.
I do have larger injectors, and my pump is more than an arson kit. Its a custom pump.

Well, it can be discussed all day long, but my 04 does it even with the normal Revo if I try timing4 which is the most timing so I am confident that it is timing related somehow on my truck. With TNT it does it regardless of timing setting.

I haven't tried that because I took the TNT off and the regular REVO doesn't have it. That popping was so nasty on my truck I decided it wasn't worth it to keep trying to make it work. This is my daily driver and didn't want to break anything plus when I need a good dose of speed, I take the car out.

oh ok. Well no matter what I did the poping was there(Beta,REVO,TNT,stock timing). I even returned it to stock and I could still feel it in first gear. With the shift defuel off, I am thinking the ECU doesnt have any controll over the torque mamagement, allowing the truck to run properly.

Well, you may be onto something if it fixed it. I just wish Marco and folks would chime in on this and provide a fix if there is one. this has been going on a long time.

I'm sorry, I thought your sig was accurate, sounds like we have the same pump from Shane. Carry on

lol look at the 4th thing on my sig...its been there all along..

Yea shane sold the pump to me with some internal mods that he said he did. I am guessing something like the aresonII kit? or maybe further..I really didnt ask him. Its crazy with the EZ though, I can be steady at 60mph(1400rpm) which is about 13k on the pressure guage, and I just flip the switch on the edge EZ without even touching the throttle and the pressure jumps to 20K. Thats awesome compared to my tired 03 cp3.

So...why does default timing works on all of the 850 hp and up 03-04 trucks?
