Ok I am roofing a condo building in about 3 weeks and the warden said I can take 5K and buy whatever rims and tires I want. Of course the Dually stop is having thier sale now just my luck.

Ok so I have narrowed it down to 22.5's from the dually stop. Or 19.5's from Rickson. ( I just like the looks and center caps on the ricksons)

22.5's look the best by far, but most guys have them on manual trans, I have an auto. I have no idea how well the 48RE will do as far as gearing and ratio. Also I tow from time to time, nothing crazy, material and a Bobcat sometimes, around 10,000 lbs.
I also have alot of go fast parts that will be negated by 22.5's but man they look good.
The smart way would be 19.5's with 225 tires, which will keep the overall diameter at around 31" like stock, and rotational mass close to stock. It will be alot easier on steering and breaking components. I know 225 tires are a little small but IMO the combo still looks alot better than stock, and my truck will still be quick.

I really cant make up my mind, the 22.5s would make me smile everytime I see the truck, but the ricksons would be more practical, but wouldnt look that different and cost a good amount.

Help me out, all opinions welcome. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks Ryan.

 

If those are your two choices, I'd go 22.5 Alcoa's....Steel Rickson's are.....steel... way too expensive for steel wheels. ks

I'd go with the 19.5's, that's what I wanna do to mine, the 22.5's look more like they should be on a show truck & not a work truck to me?? the 19.5's just look much better than stock & are still practical, I'll probably be ordering the 19.5's for mine soon! Dusty

 

Ricksons.... SWEET the 22.5s look REALLY close to the Body work, and almost look TOO BIG...


I like the 19.5s... I have a set of steel I want to send out and have scuffed and blown...NICE POWDERCOAT... ,but NOW I will HAVE to get Aluminum...

I have no regrets with mine, but I do agree with the auto thing I would try and find somebody with an auto and see how they perform. I was doing the same thing as you couldent decide what I wanted to do, and than I realized that if I diden't do the 22.5 I would regret it and probably end up doing them anyway, I would say do a little research on the auto thing and going with the 22.5. As far as performance I am considering putting an inner aluminum on and just removing it occasionally to pervent forging, but really my truck is fast enough.

 

Both 19.5 and 22.5 are good wheels.. We also picked up Rickson as a vendor but they tell me they are 4 to 6 weeks behind on orders that's the only down fall I can see. The 22.5 tire will last longer then the 19.5 tires.. The Rickson wheels for Forged Alum they start out at $540.00 so for a set of 19.5 4 Alum runs $2160.00 Then you have to buy steal wheels and tires your going to be well over 4K for a set of 19.5. You can have 22.5 for the same price if not less. Just my 2 cents..

I got my big wheels put on the new truck. I went with 10 Lug Alcoas 19.5"s with adapters. All 6 aluminums with 265's HankooK DH01 tractions. They are 34.5" tall so they drop my rpm a few hundred. I bought them for tire life, I have 25K on the truck in the first 2.5 months....the looks are a bonus!! I couldnt imagine any bigger....

 

I really like the 22.5 so far. My truck is flat out always overloaded(Ram 5500 coming soon)and the 22.5 will rub in the back when fully loaded, No big deal just took a tin snips and did a little cutting. You can't tell by looking at it because it is on the inside of the dually fender. The truck still pulls great I had 16 horses in the trailer and I could hold 75 over any hills.
If I had a auto with 3.73 gears I would go with the 19.5s only with the 4.10s would I consider the 22.5 The g56 works great with the 22.5 just my 2 cents.

 

I have 3.73 and have no problem but do have the 6spd.

 

Price is almost the same either way.

22.5's are only 220-250 lbs heavier depending on tire weight.

I wanted the larger tire for gearing and better wear.

I have never been poser....but one wouldn't think to look at my ride now.

Do what makes you happy.
