A few things I think I learned at the track this weekend...
Made my first 1/4 mile pass this weekend at our test and tune. Best run was a 15.005 @91mph. No doubt I have a 14 second pass in there with a bit of time. Here is what I think I learned.
Left once in 2nd gear. 60' was better but think I am better off leaving in 3rd gear and doing one less shift.
Left once in 2wd and after smoking the tires all the way to 5th gear figured out this was not the hot setup
Ran the smarty on number 7. Egt hit just about 1300 out the other end.
Ran the smarty on number 8. Egt hit 1400 out the other end.
Smarty on number 8 ran a quicker 1/8 mile but was slower out the end. Truck did not want to rev and pull through 5th like on the lower setting. I think I ran out of rail pressure but no gauge yet. Was .10 quicker in the 8th but slower overall.
I think with smaller tires (not 35's) I could launch better in 3rd gear but would need 6th out the other end. Not sure what the outcome would be.
I did not take the time to run a stock tune to see what the smarty did for me. I only ran it on 7 or 8.
Leaving in 3rd gear and easing the clutch worked pretty well so I could skip a shift. Last run I went all out and just dumped the clutch. My truck now hates my guts for that move. Pretty much puked right at the line.
I need to practice my shifting as I am slowing the truck down. This thing does not shift like my old race cars for sure.
I think with some time and stock tires I would have to be in the 14.75 or so range. Bottom line is that I am not at this point. I need to try diff. settings on the smarty like number 3 or 4 and see what they run. A line lock to hold the truck against may help build some boost and shock the drive train a bit less. Next move has to be a bigger fuel pump I guess as the smarty can drain the stock one it appears.
Overall a great time. I was thinking a low 16 or a high 15 for the first time out and did far better than expected. Nothing like my snowmobile on the tar though. I am hoping to go again this spring and battle with the track one more time.

I always launch in 3rd and slip the clutch...
I never leave under boost I move the first 10-20 feet with nothing but engine rpm slipping the clutch a bit. I will usually be off the clutch just about the time the boost spikes. It works good for me and I have a 2wd so you can probably be more aggressive with the throttle. But it really doesn't shock the drive train that hard.

Nice post! This is right about where I would expect to be, but I haven't taken it to the track yet. I have the Smarty now instead of the edge, but I haven't worked out the kinks enough yet to telll if it's any faster with this setup.
I figured I would post this as there are a lot of trucks out there like mine that the owner is wondering what it would run. I think your auto would be quicker than my stick. You can build boost against the brake where I can't. Shifting in these trucks is not quick. I would have to think my tranny slows me down a half second but that is only my guess.
I'd love to hit the track and find out one of these days. My eventual goal is a 13 second truck, since it seems there are very few factory sports cars that are faster than that. I just love it when a 7,300# lifted, 4x4 daily driven good fuel mileage vehicle outruns a purpose built car at it's own game!!!!!
