Yeah, that's higher than it should be. You might check the fan clutch to be sure it's working. The fan should be hard to turn and shouldn't spin freely.

if it's fine in slow traffic... it's likely not the fan clutch. Do you have a EGT gauge ? If so, what's it saying at 55+ ? Not sure what to tell you other than a good system flush and some new anti-freeze if that hasn't been done in a while. You could have a thermostat going bad too ???

well i spon the fan and it had some resiestance and stoped as soon as i let go i did the water pump 2-3 months ago and did the antifreeze then i guess i just have to go and get a thermostat and through that in there on a side note my ac seems to freeze up after a fell miles on the intersate but again in traffic it is fine unless i stop for a long period of time

Mine runs 200 degrees from day one right off the lot. I have seen it at 210 a lot, and I heard from several dealers that they get phone calls and people comming in all the time concerned about it. They said the common rails run a little warmer and it is perfectly normal according to Cummins. Don't know if thats true, just what I've been told.

According to my edge monitor mine runs between 194-196 degrees and on warmer days will sit at 200. When I run it real hard or am hooked to the sled it will jump up to 220 quickly.

im not sure how acurate the stock gauge is,my gauge seemed high so i got a 190 tstat, the old one was a 195,the gauge showed a bit higher with the new tstat, the camander shows 190-193 and 200 pulling, the pod for the x2 shows a little less,i dont know what one is the real temp,a mech gauge with a probe in the engine is probaly the best.no electronics,

Not questioning your intelligence here, but if you did the antifreeze, did it run hot before that as well? The wrong ratio of antifreeze to water can affect the temps. You could always use some additive like Redline water wetter and see if that helps. Can't think of the name right now, but in the back of Diesel Power I've seen ads for a coolant you run in place of regular antifreeze that is suppose to drop temps.

In traffic on warm days I see 207-210 on average, on the highway once Im at speed it will go down to the 190s but touch the go pedal and she will creep back to the low 200s. Im not worried, my truck runs a little warm no biggie.

My needle is dead on 200 most of the time in the 07 5.9. Sometimes it will be 190 putting around and I regularly see 210 while pulling heavy loads. My last 3 common rail dodges all ran the same exact spot.
