Question Engine question?

What am I getting myself into. I am going to be ordering valve springs very soon and was wondering what other things am I going to need to be able to install them. I know I need a new head gasket and will be installing my head studs at the same time so I don't need new head bolts. Can I get away with leaving the exhaust manifold on and just dropping the turbo when I pull the head? If I can do that can I also leave the intake horn on. Is there anything that I am forgetting? What else will I need? This is my first time taking a head off from an engine that is still in the truck so anyone with any experience and advice woud be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
Evan

Are you just replacing valve springs? You can do that without removing the head.

no need to remove the head for installing studs or springs. you just need the spring compressor tool. if you get the one to compress 4 springs at once you have to remove the injectors tho, which means a few other things need to be removed first.

Yes you can leave the exhaust manifold on when you pull the head, it makes it much easier IMO.

This might be a stupid question but what keeps the valve from falling into the cylinder?

Pull your injector out and use a piece of mechanics wire etc. and put it down the hole. Turn over the engine until that piston is at the very top. The valve to piston clearance is very minimal and will hold your valves in place to do the springs.

The studs you do 1 at a time to keep from unsealing your head gasket.
