The Edge tech claims that though the smarty runs cooler, it won't have the same pull right off the line because it doesn't do duration and that is what edge does. Is this true? I thought I have read on here that the smarty pulls harder right off the line. What's the truth?

The tech doesn't know what he is talking about, the smarty, until recently, only does timing and duration, all the even numbers are duration only... He is just trying to sell his, IMHO, inferior product thru lies...

I have run the 40hp smarty Jr on stock tq managment and mild tq management, the smarty tq managment PULLS off the line, and that is the lowest level...

Well, i like the j/a and if they can get the egt's down a little, it will work for me, but if I have the money someday, I might go for a smarty sr.

The J/A has some nice features and is all built on one, but it adds to the EGT issue as you can't have the progressive timing with a box like smarty has... but I know several guys at work that have it and really like it... I am not knocking it persay, just don't think they provide the style power that a Smarty does...

Really there is no cheap way to control your EGT's at this point, the most cost effective would be the Smarty, otherwise your looking at some serious hardware.

So, if my egt's stay this high, and that is bad for the truck, what exactly are my options? The only options I am aware of are these:

1) Smarty $685

2) Intercooler $1,200

3) Turbo $1,200

4) Twin turbo's $ 3,500

Am I missing anything simple or inexpensive that I could do instead of these pricy upgrades?

Well, I got the juice back from edge and installed it tonight after work, and the egt's are no better. I guess the truck just runs that hot!

Well, I had a chance to do some pulling and some more general driving, and it is running even hotter than before!! It won't build much boost, and I think that for some reason, it is not boost fooling any more. I'm trying to get back ahold of edge to figure this out.

Sometimes is seems to max out around 24 and sometimes around 33. i used to be able to get 38 - 39. Now the egt's go up but the boost doesn't.

Also, I noticed that sometimes in 4th locked, the turbo would shutter or whisper at me... kind-of a tsh-tsh-tsh-tsh.
