Did my first mod...afe stage 2

I've had my first diesel truck for a whopping 3 weeks now (2007 Dodge Mega Cab 5.9L) and have been researching the intakes for about 2 months off-and-on. I believe I ran into a good deal at a truck accessory store in Austin, TX on an afe stage 2 w/Pro Guard 7. The guy said it was $429 but said he'll sell it to me for $389 so I got it. I figured it wasn't too bad of a price with being able to walk in and walk out with it. I just installed it, took about 30min (one Corona also ). Instructions were okay but did have an error. It stated to remove a 13mm bolt but upon looking at the image provided it was the 10mm, not the 13mm. Not a biggie but the image helped. I've heard others say they had problems with the oil filter. Mine went on fairly easy just took alot of wiggling and slight twisting to get the coupler flush with the turbo. Turbo whistle is twice as loud easily. A little improvement on acceleration but it's noticeable...especially if you need to put your foot into it to pass. I'm pleased with the product and just filled up to see if I notice an economy difference. Next is going to be a cat-back exhaust, nothing major, and finally a programmer with a monitor or gauges. Thanks for the great site.

That is a good price for walk in and walk out. I have had AFE air intakes on last 2 trucks. Some complain about pricey, but it is a quality product. I just switched to the AFE Pro Dry S filter for the AFE Stage II. Both Pro Guard 7 and Pro Dry S are quality filters.

Now it begins. Enjoy!

Hi, please do tell all your experiences with your add ons. I am waiting to get my 07 quad, it´ll arrive in 15 days, and as you, I would like to start slow with modifications.

In fact, all the first mods will be exterior mods and then the sound system. After I´m done with my sound system I´ll start with those mods in that exact order that you are doing:

1) AFE Stage 2
2) Exhaust, maybe MBRP. By the way, is there a difference in terms of horsepower between the cool duals and the single one? Or is it just looks?
3) Programmer, maybe Edge+Attitude.

I hope I leave it there, since I don´t want to change turbo, tranny, etc. I guess those 3 mods would give an extra 100-150 hp, that the stock tranny would be able to handle, or am I wrong?

Well, hope you keep this post updated with your mods, so that I can learn from them.

Good luck !
