Commander Parameters

I got my Commander today & I am kinda ignorant to the limits I should set it @. Which parameters should I choose for de-fueling safety & at what #'s should I choose? Thank you for your help!

Here's what I have

EGT - 1350*
Boost - 41 psi
Injector Pressure - 25,500 psi
Coolant temp - 225*
Tranny temp - 225*
Cold start protection - 170*

I think that's it. My numbers are probably a bit conservative compared to other.

I do not mean to hi-jack this thread, but where do you find the Cold start protection feature, I have scrolled through the menu and can't find it.
This lead me to my next question, has any one updated their Commander on their P.C., and if so do you need to buy any cables for this, I can't remember what the wiring looks like.
Thanks.

I am paranoid about installing the EGT probe in the manifold. How far off is the temp. if you put it in the turbo down pipe? If I idle the truck while I drill the manifold, should I not be paranoid? TIA

Drilling the manifold is not nearly as bad as it sounds. I did mine while at idle, per Quadzilla's instructions, and also coated my bit with grease, and drilled slowly once I started to go through the manifold. I wiped it off every few seconds to clean the shavings off of the drill bit.
Personally, I would go pre-turbo, and most people feel the same way, but its better to monitor post-turbo than non at all,IMO. I dont know the differences in temp between pre and post, but I would recommend pre, especially since it isnt that bad to drill there(some poeple monitor both). Some guys on here have 20-30,000+ miles after drilling the manifold and no turbo failures. Just go for it!

Does the Commander defuel on it's own? I know it has the settings to, but I thought you needed a module to defuel and the Commander is only a gauge if you don't have a module like the XZT, Standard or Race.

I have set my alarms and defuel points but never feel anything difference when I go past my defuel limits.

It's about 250* cooler post-turbo. That's where I put mine.

It will only defuel when it has a module to control. Without one it can only warn you.

Thanks.

The cable is just a mini USB, like what you get with a digital camera. Last I checked the Commander comes with one.

I can't remember offhand where the cold start feature is set. Keep poking around and you'll find it.

That's the whole reason I went w/ the commander over analog was so it would de-fuel, now I have to purchase something different for it to work? What is it I need? Will it defuel using the Diablo Predator? TIA

If you go into the Main Menu, then go into Hardware Setup and go into the Warm Up Mode setting, you will be able to set the warm up temperature. The settings range from 120-200, but you would probably want to set it at 150-160. The Commander will not control Diablo Predator. The Commander does not commincate with the ECM so it is not able to control any of the Downloaders.

When it sayes that it will defuel it is kind of misleading. It means that it will defuel the box. When it defuels it only takes it back to stock settings. Not like the TST that actually cuts more fuel. Of course the TST has more connections and a more elaborate wiring harness.
