I have a friend with an '03 Common Rail dually 4x4 who is looking for better MPG and a little more power for pulling a BIG trailer (not necessarily at the same time.) He's interested in a chip or a programmer and me being from the old 12-valve school, I don't have a clue. Can you guys help me with the basics, like what they do, what he should get to get maybe 60 extra HP or so (he has NO other mods whatsoever,) and what "stacking" means? He has an automatic tranny, BTW.

 

a good towing box would be the quad xzt. 65hp + fuel milage increase. im fixing to order one to stack w/ my smarty

Hmm, for downloaders.. SMARTY and Diablo comes to mind first as they are both good downloaders. SMARTY cost a lil more, bt you get the service of the guys that made it actually participating on this site and they are constantly coming out with new software that you can choose from and download to the downloader. The SMARTY has 10 different settings to choose from. I have no trans mods, and if you run the Smarty on the higher settings, you can do damage. But you can shoose to run 30 extra HP, 60 more, 90 more, 130 more. on the 130 setting, my truck gained 160 HP. I am very happy to say the least.

I have no personal experience with the diablo, but have heard nothing but good things from my DTR chapter president about it. he is making mid 500HP but he has a lot of mods to go with that.
