bully dog power pup troubles!?!?!?!? ughh
ok, i bought the bully dog power pup for my 05 6spd dodge... it was brand new and no one has ever used it... i pluged it in and went to install the performance mode and as soon as i hit "ok" a screen came up that said unknown vehicle and gave some code like 24542453AF or somethin like that...so i put it in my friends truck and his is an 05 auto tranny and it worked just fine no problems...
so i called bullydog to see what the problem is and i guess they hired some people from banks to work there and answer phone calls because everytime i call there the ppl are lost to my question...
... i hear they are a good company to choose from and i want to give them a chance... anyway my question is... is it possible that i could have an 06 computer in my truck to make it not install... my manufacture date on my trucks engine and truck is june, 2005... my buddys is a april, 2005, two months older than mine. maybe someone out there besides someone that works at bullydog can answer my question because this is driving me crazy (larry
)... i have the edge j/a on my truck and i hear it is safe to stack if i use in moderation, but i tried to install the bullydog when my truck was plain stock and had the same problem. i appreciate everyones help if you can solve this... thanks alot, razor

Take it back to your dealer if you got it locally. Maybe he can install latest downloads. My dealer was having problems with it also gave some strange numbers. So he just gave me a new one off the shelf.
This is a problem with the power pup for the 2005 Power Pup. It was released before the 2005.5 G56 6 Speed was released. It's just a problem with the the pup having old programming on it. Either Bully Dog has a reflash available, or they have a new part number for it. I'm sure it was just old stock at your dealer. You should ask your dealer and see if they have the pup for the 2005.5 G56 trucks.
who did you purchase from. I mean I would call bullydog and not get off the phone with them till there was a new one on the way or the problem was solved.
I would be money that it is a software version issue since it worked on the older truck.

when i orderd mine i had to call bully dog first to make sure that the triple dog would work with my g56, and then call my local shop and have them order it for me. mine works great
i also installed the crazy larry program and get even better mialage with that than i do on economy or performance. plus the added power is great.

I am glad to see that I am not the only (sorry!) one that has had issues with Bully Dog.
I tried one on my 2003. As most of us know now, the "stock" program is not your stock program, but the latest version of DC's cal.
I found this out the hard way, as I had a $500 custom cal wrote over. When I contact Bully Dog, they said that the previous statement was true. They have no way to "pull" your stock cal out of the truck and store it. They really never apologized for the misprint on their website or product description.
My special cal was not easy to obtain, and it took a lot of work. Needless to say, I had to spend more money to get it back.
I never had much luck with the BDDL. It made the throttle response way to sensitive and the truck idled funky. There are, however, a lot of people that I know running the BDDL and they have nothing but the best to say about them. And I will admit, it makes power!

Uhhh, I think I'd rather not say..
The cal I have is not that hot. I am sure that a TST or Edge Hot Juice would walk all over it. But I have a stock tranny and turbo, so I realize the limits of what I can do.
But I was able to defeat some other things, though. The torque management is gone, the top speed limiter is gone (although you hit the high-speed governor a little after the old limit), the cruise control limit (85mph) is gone, and the transient and steady-state timing has been changed.
On another note, we have played around with timing quite a bit. There is not really a whole lot to gain there, on fuel mileage, as some would believe. It's easy to over-advance and start to lose MPG.
The cal is not perfect, but it is too time consuming to worry about.

razor6,
Don't know where you got the Power Pup, please don't say either as they should have known that the Power Pup is not programmed for the manual trans trucks. Bully Dog has put out various memo's to that issue. Where ever you got it hasn't got that info or they wouldn't have sold it to you. The Triple Dog works with all tranny's though. I knwo this isn't what you wanted to hear, but since all we do is diesel performance we keep up on all the little details that lots of places don't etc.
