Bilstein Shock Problem

Hey guys,

My truck developed this banging noise in the rear about 6 months ago. Its been getting slowly worse, and finally its bad. I could not figure out what it is. Everything under there was tight, and with weight on it shocks seem fine. BUT, when I get another person to jump in the box, you can tell that the shock bushings (where the bolt that goes through them is) are finished. There is more then 1/4" clerance back there and the noise is unbarable now.

Shocks developed this problem after not too many miles. Sure lots of washboard, but i'm pretty dissapointed with this.

I'm not sure what the warranty on those is, will call the shop I got them from on Monday.
If Bilstein wont' cover that for me, I might go with a different shock. What would you guys recommend for a QUALITY shock, something that will give me a good ride and good control/comfort and life.

Its an 05 1 ton with 6" lift.

Thanks guys.

I had a similar issue with a set of Ranchos a couple of years ago, but in my case at least one of the bushings was actually missing a few months after the installation. I replaced the missing bushing with one off of my stock shocks and never had another problem.

Bilsteins are excellent shocks, but like anything man made, a bad part or component can make it out to the customer. I would try and get a replacement bushing or shock from your retailer or bilstein, and give them another try.

Just my two cents.

Your shocks should be covered under warranty still. Like EDR said, if it's man made it's messed up.

If you are totaly unsatisfied with the Bilstein's check out a set of RMX Monotubes. I run them on my truck and have no complaints, but as you and I both know you are running one of the better shocks out there now, i'd stick with um. I've even ran into a little issue w/ Bilstein shocks, but it was my fault not the shocks.

You really have to tighten the shock eye bolts down. I have had that happen before and it is from to much play left between the the eyebolt anf shock mount which takes its toll.

Makes sence, thanks guys.

I didn't do the initial install, but I will redo them. I'll also look for my stock shocks and see if I can extract the bushing. It would not surprise me if mine wasn't missing as well.
