any programmer or chip is traceable so it does leave a footprint.

Read up more on the Smarty, leaves no trace.

there was a an ariticle about in a previous diesel power or diesel world magazine how all programmers and chips are traceable. there is lot of them out there they claim they are not traceable.

Yeah I don't buy that either. A tech once told me they can find anything if they look hard enough. Most just don't.

I gotta think even if it restores key counts and all that other stuff, that there's still evidence somewhere of it running out of Dodge specifications.

Besides...I'm not really into screwing Dodge over. I don't want to be denied for something the programmer didn't do either though. I still take it off when I go in.

The smarty will not leave a trace that IT was there, but if you have a good mech, he will know that SOMETHING was there. Over boost, high RP, speed, etc, will be stored. They will know that the truck was taken out of it's stock form.

Exactly, the ECU snapshots engine parameters when a DTC is generated for diagnostic purposes. AFAIK, most dealers cannot access this info but if they either call in the regional tech reps or send the ECU in it can be dumped.

You burn an engine down and generate DTC's and there will be captured info.

All the programmers do what they advertise, add power. Not positive there is a "best" for safety, they will ALL cause failure. Your single best control and monitoring system is a set of gauges and your right foot. :)

I know Smarty is the popular choice on this forum, and I have nothing bad to say about it. That said, I have a Hypertech Max Energy that I have been running on my truck (in the middle setting) for the past year with no issues at all. Even hauling a 20,000# GCW load through the Canadian Rockies with no EGT issues.

ib516: Good post. I do love my smarty, and think the world of it as a programmer, but there are a lot of programmers out there that will work for others needs just as good, if not better, than a smarty.

It's all about what you want to do. :)

I just bought an 06 3500. From everything I've read, I think I'm going to go with the Smarty JR.

I have a predator programmer, it does provide a bunch of power. The only drawback is it takes up to ten minutes to download and in cold conditions it has a rough high idle in warm up.
