Best chip for fuel economy

We have a 2003 4X4 auto, and am looking for a good chip that will increase our fuel economy. Their are alot on the market, but was wondering if any of you have had good experience with one.

Same question here....bang for the buck??

Sam Turner2 04-05-2007 10:48 AM

bang for the buck

The biggest bang for the buck has got to be the Quadzilla XZT or exhilarator or Diablo Power Puck or predator

Stay away from the edge juice if fuel economy is what your after

973604x4 04-05-2007 11:17 AM

Quadzilla XZT no comparison.

I have NEVER seen a mileage improvement with Edge products on my truck. (I've owned 2 EZ's and 3 Juice's)

I have seen impressive mileage improvements with Bullydog and Smarty products as well, but they aren't as cost effective as the Quadzilla XZT. PM Lary Ellis in the DTR store and see what kind of "cost effective" I'm talking about. [coffee]

I have had a 4-5 MPG drop with my XZT. Running 11 to 12 MPG highway with it installed, 15-17 MPG highway with it removed.

Treangen 04-05-2007 11:30 AM

So what gauges to comliment XZT or is there no need? Commander or go with analogs? Or what about that really small quadzilla digital gauge???

elirandolph 04-05-2007 11:31 AM

dr performance predator module. 2 miles per gallon gain on highway and without lead foot.

TexMexCowboy 04-05-2007 11:51 AM

how much better have yall seen the XZT improve your performance and your fuel economy?

Has any one calculated the improvements on any of these??

Sloverado 04-05-2007 12:23 PM

I have never seen a gain on any thing on my Dodge. Now I did see a nice gain with the Preditor 2.02 on my DMax. I can't keep my foot out of the Dodge to get mpg out of it. I avg about 16 with it.

What is your mi per gallon now. Saturday we're getting exaust on the truck. I hear exaust can give two mile per gal improvement, air filter is another 2 miles per gallon, then a 2 mile per gallon on the chip.
An imporvement of 6 miles per gallon would be sweet, Maybe thats just wishful thinking

Treangen 04-05-2007 12:32 PM

From what I have heard that is more than wishful! You can't simply just add the total of all the improvements. If you do one then the others are greatly decreased.

Yeah, too bad you couldn't do that.[nonono] If it was true, you could drive a truck with 600hp and get 30mpg by just adding on little stuff.[laugh] [laugh]

Like I mentioned in my previous post, I noticed a 4-5 MPG drop with the XZT. I've been playing with it off and on for the better part of 18 months. I don't have a heavy foot, at least on the long trips I installed it for. When I first had it installed, I was making 500 mile trips between the Texas panhandle and northern Colorado, or 750 mile trips from the Abilene area and northern Colorado. The majority of that data was gathered while on cruise control between 65 and 75 mph. The only stops were for gas or to let me and the dog do God's business at a rest area.

When I first had it installed, I drove with an even lighter foot, to eek out the most MPG I could from the module. I was surprised to see the OH display show 24 MPG. I was excited until I did the manual calculation and saw that it was actually 11.6 MPG for the trip returning to Amarillo from Denver. I average around 17 MPG on that same trip without the module installed.

This week, I've pulled the module out of the glove box and reseated all the connections. It's a 70 mile drive to my current work-site in NE Colorado. 40 miles paved roads at 65 mph and 30 unpaved at 45 mph. I've put 217 miles on this tank, and I'm below the 1/2 mark now, so I'm still seeing a significant decrease in MPG with the XZT.

So, in my application, the module doesn't improve MPG. The seat-of-my-pants-meter, that someone else had mentiond in another thread, doesn't even register the added 60 hp that this module is supposed to provide with a heavy foot. It takes the same ammount of time to reach the my marker fence post from the stop-sign that it takes without the module.
