BDTD Problems

I gave the BDTD a try and had some issues with it. When I started the truck after downloading the dash lights didn't come on at all. I had no gear selection indicator and the rest of the lights wouldn't come on (ie. Tow/Haul and OD lockout lights). It also did something really funky with my radio. When I start the truck with a download installed it shows the back-up camera image on my Pioneer and nothing else. The back-up cam is normally triggered by the reverse signal. I can't get the image off the screen or use any of the nav functions with it like this. If I turn the key backwards to Acc only the radio starts working like normal again (with the download still installed).

Anyone else have these issues with the BD? I upgraded it to the latest version before installing.

Please dont refer to Bully Dog as BD. We are two separate companies and this is just a little pet peave of mine. We have been around for over 30 years. 18 with the name BD. This just leads to confusion and me getting tech calls for someone elses product.

Wow what a productive early morning rant..................

Yeah, I only did it to troubleshoot. Put the truck back to stock after the problems. If I decide to go back to the Smarty, hopefully it won't be a problem. I definitely won't be changing back and forth any more though.

I thought you guys were "BD Power"? Sorry if the names are so close it causes confusion. I thought it was clear what company I was referring to when I mentioned BDTD twice above in the post.

the gear indicator lights are gone because you selected to delete torque management? If you didn't select to delete torque management, thats an issue.

As to your other problems, thats a new one on me. Never heard of anything like that before.

Yes, I did have the TM deleted. So they do that on purpose or is it a known bug?

The radio thing really freaked me out. I should have got out and checked to see if the reverse lights were stuck on since the reverse signal is the only thing that will trigger the BU cam like that.

The lights going out with TM deleted is a known bug. I'm not sure why it happens.

Do you know if it's normally all the lights or just the gear selection indicator?

should be just the gear indicator lights. It says that on the Triple Dog when you select to delete torque management.

jrussell,

It is perfectly normal for the shift indicator lights to be out with TQ mgmt disabled. I don't know about Tow Haul, camera, etc. May be related??

I don't consider this to be a bug whatsoever. I do think BD........whoops....I mean Bully Dog is really disabling torque management the same way that BD engine brake did with the earlier CR models that disabled the entire dash. Our trucks have the PCM and ECM integrated, so this is no longer possible to disable just TQ mgmt.

I would suggest enabling low-end fueling and disabling TQ mgmt. This is aggressive; quite aggressive. I have not yet tried anything else, and probably won't.

I feel better about the lights being out now, but the thing with my radio is something I would consider to be a bug. I can't really use the BDTD if it screws up the radio that bad.

I had the low-end fueling enabled and the TM disabled. It did seem pretty aggressive but the EGT's were out of control at low boost/low RPM situations. I was hitting 1350* just trying to baby it up to 40mph. At around 60mph trying to merge DOWN an on-ramp with VERY light throttle it was hitting 1350 and would have gone much higher. When the turbo lights the EGT's are better, but you can't keep it lit unless you drive around manually shifting and keeping the RPM's at 2k or above. Under 2k it seems you could melt the motor down just cruising around town.

This sound normal for Crazy Larry with a bigger single? I might just have to go to twins sooner than expected!
