In the Autometer gauges, I have noticed that the electric gauges and the mechanical gauges have different brightness levels. The electrics are always a lot brighter than the mechanicals. I've got a set of Cobalts in my truck; the boost gauge being the only mechanical gauge. I swapped it for an electric one because the different brightness levels drove me insane. Only problem with going all electric is that it gets pricey.

When I installed Autometer gauges with led lighting I found the gauges to bright for my liking, even tho they were hooked up to the dimmer switch. Autometer has a dimmer switch for led bulbs, it works excellent.

AutoMeter uses 2 different lighting schemes - for example the UltraLite & UltraLite II series - using incandescent or LED illumination. Of course, the filaments aren't nearly as bright; on longer circuit runs, the difference is pronounced.

In order to help equalize the output in lumens, we retrofit a brighter halogen bulb into the incandescent socket, or wire an appropriately-sized resistor in series with the LED circuit... you could even use potentiometers for the ultimate in ****-retentive synlumescent gauge lighting!
