autometer elctric fuel pressure gauge problem

the last few days when i apply the brakes the psi increase by 1-2 pounds. i was told it was either the ground wire or the power wire causing interference, since i had more than one wire on each of those wires (even though the gauge worked fine that way for eight months) so today, i changed the ground-still did it. changed the power wire next- now the gauge is even more sensitive!!! pis increase a good 4 pounds when i apply the brakes!!! what gives?? bad sender???

I would think that when you let off the go pedal to apply the brakes the demand of the motor goes down so the fuel pressure will go up.

Well I have never seen mine do that and it is connected to power, light dimmer and ground the same place as my other gauges. Had it installed for a year and a half at least.

If the power and ground did not solve it, then it may be either bad sender or guage itself.

well, autometer is the one that told me to change the ground first-and if that did not work- change the power wire to a different location. i knew this was not it- since i had the same connections for over eoght months and that it just started to do it!! but the wierd thing is- now the problem is worst -since both wires now have their own connections(not sharing with other wires!) i hope it is the sender-not the gauge! thanks

Mine just started to read 2-3# above where it normally is a couple weeks ago. Haven't had time to fool with it. Won't have the time for a while either. Front pinion seal is starting to leak.

... so much for electric gauges being better than mechanicals...

They all have flaws no matter which brand make or model!!!

I haven't had any troubles with mine yet. But I will watch mine the next week and see. I do know my boost guage flutters now with the a5k but I think that is my wastegate problem!!

I wouldn't worry about your lift pump pressure gauge observations.

My mechanical Autometer gauge has always registered higher when braking - typically caused by suddenly reduced demand from the injectors causing the rail to "spike" a tad.

FWIW, the phenomena became more obvious with the advent of ULSD - probably due to the lower aromatic content of the new fuel (thus, I suspect, marginally higher viscosity)

lol
It wasn't aimed at you, but to the many who preach about the devil mechanicals, especially those of us who run them without an isolator.

All electric gauges are not created equal.

rjm022, It does sound like a bad ground but maybe it's not the gauge ground that's bad. I would try attaching a new ground wire from the battery to the truck body and see if that helps.
