ARP studs

started the stud job tonight at 6pm. got valve cover, rocker base, engine at TDC, rocker arms off by 6:45. BBQ'd burgers for the family. back to work. by 8:30 had all bolts replaced with studs and torqued loosened and retorqued. tomorrow will retorque again, reassemble and run the valves.
in hindsight, i should have bought injectors to install at this time. makes life more comfortable to remove the hood latch.

Wow, I have no Idea how you went through the whole torque sequence including disassembly in 2.5 hours including dinner. That's gotta be some kind of record. Somehow, I managed to make the installation take about 8 hours when I put mine in on saturday night / sunday morning
Don't forget to clearance the lower rocker box at the right rear to clear the stud. Did you use the torque wrench to loosen the nuts after torqueing?

Glad to hear you got around to doin this Chris. I was gonna do mine sooner but I have since decided that I am gona wait and do springs, injectors and cp3. I sounds like quite a bit of work to do the studs so I only want to do it once.

Good luck.

I can't see him bottom tapping and having all studs installed in less than a couple hours. Unless he's the greatest mechanic of all time.....

If he did bottom tap, then I'm getting slower in my old age than I though I was.

nope no bottom tap until i need to pull the head. i dont ever use a torque wrench the wrong direction. if its cal'd clockwise, that's the only way it is turned. breaker bar to loosen, then switch to the TQ wrench. i stuffed the burger in my mouth as fast as i could. getting back to work now.

Had to check ya on that one.... I know that ate up a lot of my time switching back and forth between the breaker bar and the torque wrench. I'm 28, work out 3-4 times per week and was sore as hell the next morning. I used an aluminum truck toolbox as a platform to stand on. Made the job much easier.

Why dident you put some Cunningham titanium rods and send it to the machine shop and drop fire rings?

well i'm 33 and 5'6" so that truck is really hard to get to for me. i stood on a step ladder and basically layed over the cowl.
my valves were really loose, the e valve on #5 was at 28 thou. geez. now that they are set right, the engine is much smoother and quieter now.thanks kyle, but i think i am done with performance mods for a little while. got some other plans for the truck, interior and exterior for now.

Who went thru the heat cycle process and then retorqued? Were any of the studs out of the original torque spec? Did everybody do 4 torque sequences for each stud? I torqued them down and let let the turbo have it

thanks,

jp
