Anyone running Biodiesel?
Anyone running Biodiesel?
I have the opportunity to run biodiesel and make it. It would basically cost 25 dollars to fill up my tank, vs. 90 dollars. I just want to know if you have to change your fuel filter more often or if there are any other side affects to running biodiesel. If not then I will probably run the crap out of it. any info would be helpful.
Thanks,
Michael

As far as I know 20% is the max in a common rail. I've also heard of guys running 100% without side effects. It was explained to me that when bio goes through the extreme pressures of the CP3 that it polymerizes (basically gets stringy) and can clog injectors. It also has great cleaning properties, cleaning all the junk out of your fuel tank and clogging up the fuel filter. I've been staying away from it for those reasons and because the quality of the bio isn't the same where ever you go. Some places could have high quality and others have absolute crap. I've always wondered if you make it yourself and take extra care in the quality aspect, could you theoretically run 100%?
yah that is what I am wondering also, I would be making it and the oil we are getting is already filtered and we filter it again. so It will be really clean. It is a doctor that has alot of equipment and is footing the cost. He already runs it in all of his tractors and his powerstroke but his truck has the 7.3 not the newer 6.0 or heavans sake the 6.4. anyway, I just dont know of anyone running it in a cr and I didnt want to be the guinny pig and have to pay a lot in repairs you know. I am meeting with him tommorrow to look at the set up and operations. He also has some brand new tractors that are running it with no problems.

i've run a few tanks full of B99 before, as well as several tanks full of B20, neither of which had any ill effects at all. but due to availability issues, I have not run it for a prolonged amount of time so I can't speak to its long term effects.
I think as stated above, if you control the quality well, then there should be no problems at all.
