I'd love to have a measurement. How far down does it come from the top of the tailgate to the bottom of the cap material?

I dinged mine last weekend backing up to my fiver in the dark (believe it when they say you have no depth perception at night - I thought I had about a foot left). Anyway, it's a small, but very noticeable dent about 2" from the top of the tailgate. I think a deep cap could possibly cover the damage. The Bushwacker seems to be the deepest from the ones I can see online.

Other solutions considered . . . bondo and primer and then take it back to LineX and have them come down the tailgate a few more inches (the dent is a good inch below where the LineX cap currently stops). Fifth wheel tailgate (that's about $300). Of course, I suppose a body shop would be another alternative.

If anyone has any other suggestions, I'm all ears.

 

I'll measure mine when I get home.....I bought them for the exact same reason....they actually sit down alot farther then I thought they would.

I lost a load of retaining wall concrete blocks off the back of my truck and scratched the heck out of my tailgate. The Bushwacker gaurd covers all but one small ding.

 

I have the light textured Bushwachers tailgate cap on the Ghost Rider. It comes down 3" from the top of the tailgate.

AWESOME!!! 3 inches might just do it. I'll measure when I get home. That'll be a clean, easy, cheap ($29) fix if it works.

i've got their diamond plate tread textured one on mine. it over laps about 3" on the outside and 1" on the inside. it comes down just a bit more than the edge on my truck cap...
