anyone else notice your RPM's going straight to 1000+rpm on startup after Smarty??
My truck does the same thing once in a while with the smarty or stock.
Try starting the truck with the parking brake off or with your foot on the brake pedal. Then after it starts put the parking brake back on and take your foot off the brake pedal. The truck will idle for a minute or so then will go into high idle on it's own.

Stock it goes right to 1000. I doubt it is that hard on it and I am sure it does less damage then rolling down the street at 1000 after just starting. Mine will ramp up to 1000 idle even with the engine warm (185 to 190) if I put it in park and it is in the teens outside.

I am defiantly crazy!!! thanks for reassuring that guys

Guess I better remember to plug it in if it bugs me that bad....
thanks for all the comments
Got this info from another site....when the ECM see's colder than 32*F rpm's auto ramp after 2min of straight ideling. When it see's colder than 15*F instant auto ramp to 1100. You can deactiviate it by depressing the brake pedal, but it will reset and after 2min will auto ramp again. It's to keep the alternator running in it's effective zone so when the grid heaters cycle and the fuel heaters are on and all your other power drains are on it wont strain the batteries. Mine did this even before my SMARTY. I think it is DC autoprogramming.....

ya it bugs the heck out of me too. I keep hearing my dad in the background yelling at me to "let it build oil pressure before you run it up against the limiter"!! seems as though the brains at cummins or even dodge would at least put a delay in there so it could build pressure before a 1000 rpm dry start.
Well, i had mine plugged in last night and it did not do it. I know for a fact yesterday morning was the first time. High idle has always kicked in after 2mins in cold weather. I have been in Illinois hunting on several occassions at 10-20 dregree weather not plugged in and like before high idle after 2 mins.
Who knows, maybe it was part of hte new software released by DC.

The '05 never burped out a high idle rpm on start-up until the Smarty was loaded, and then only if it was on an aggressive timing SW.
As far as the oil pressure, sometimes I can count ten alligators before the AutoMeter needle moves...
