Allison tranny for Cummins
this is just me, but once you change over to allison, then you have to do something about the Tcase too, right!? another pandoras box on your hands... wont a beefed up 48re be just as good as the allison? I have heard of the allisons needing work to hand the power too... anyway, the only good thing would be the more gears, but I like the taller further spaced gearing of the 4spd auto now I think of it... with high torque#, it'll pull harder thru each gear rather than just taching out constantly

I guess you did not bother to read my post. I do NOT WANT A 48RE.
I DO NOT CARE ABOUT gear spacing. I do not car about having work doen to the Allsion to handle the power. And beside, if an Allsion can handle 600 HP and 1800 lb ft of torque, then why on earth would anyone think that it would not handle the measley power my CTD is putting out. I do NOT HAVE 4WD, so I do NOT NEED A TRANSFER CASE. Please, thanks for chiming in, but you could read my post before you respond

Well, I did read your post. It would be cool to have a different tranny. Everyone keeps saying to get a 48RE, but it's still a 48RE no matter how tough you make it and they are just not that great. Only 4 speeds and dorky shifting, etc. What a dinosaur. The Allison ratios make a lot of sense to me and I'd love to have a six speed auto. I've always wondered if I should have gotten the stick in my truck, but at the time I was totally burned out on the constant shifting required in my V6 Dakota. What a terrible engine!!! It had a real world working range of about 500RPM and had very little power. My favorite example is putting two dirt bikes in the back and it would not pull 5th gear on flat ground, or just barely while floored and getting about 10 MPG. Finally I couldn't stand it and ordered the Cummins.
