Airdog 2

Ok so my lift pump is going out on me. So i ordered a new airdog 2 165 kit. Now should i install it like it says or should i run to the stock filter for more filtering capabilities? Also is it hard to pull the fuel tank and what are the specs for putting it back up?

When I talked with Airdog, they said to follow the instructions it may end up putting air back into the fuel due to cavitation within the stock fuel filter.

If you do reading around here it seems that the airdog water separator does not meet the oem filter specs. It's up to you if you want to or not. It will not hurt anything, just another filter that you need to replace. Also if your running the pump over 25psi, I would recommend changing the oem filter cap to a billet from Geno's garage to keep the cap from blowing off due the pressure.

As for dropping the tank, it's pretty easy. I justed used two jacks & an impact gun to remove & re-install the straps that hold up the tank. The gun had 90psi to it & was on the highest setting for the 1/2" drive. No problems & I've done that serveral times and none have snapped. Just need deep well sockets (15mm).

I reccommend keeping it in place to filter out the water that the AD wont catch.

then what would be the point of getting the airdog? Just get a rapter FP instead. there is no reason to have the stock filter inline with the airdog. 2 micron is 2 micron. it doesnt matter how many 2 micron filters you put your fuel through. The airdog fuel/water seperator is good enough to get any and all water out.

The AD is not a 2um filter for starters. Its a 5um absolute filter, with good 2um ratings, but NOT a 2um filter like the Cat's or Donaldson equivelant.

The f/w separation ratings are NOT good enough. They are 50% free and 0% emulsifed water separation. OE specs are 95% free water and 95% emulsified water sep.

The Baldwin PF7977 (OE sytle filter) is 5um absolute, and 98% free water and 95% emulsified water sep.. so its overall filtering is better than the AD.

I’d pull the bed. I’ve both dropped the rank and pulled the bed. I felt it was easier to work on when I pulled the bed.

I originally bypassed the OEM filer water/separator and was only concerned about the fuel heater, but after I saw a few posts on there about the AD spin on filter not up to specs on water separation, I plumbed back in the OEM canister.

I set the AD for ~14-15 psi at idle, so hopefully it will hold up.

The AD water sperator is not as good as the stock one, you can't get a 2 micron filter for the AD.

You were on the right track when you said to go with a Raptor instead though...
