Do you have a drive pressure gauge hooked up?

Picking out a turbo is so confusing. It took me forever to sort of decide what I want. Now I am considering the 71ss.

I need something soon. I floor it a few times a day for just a couple seconds or so. But I am running the stocker, which has to have high D.P.'s.

Good info, thanx.

No drive pressure gauge, but when the turbo is wastegated at 40-42lbs and it hits 48-50 I think the drive pressure is a little high.Drive pressure lbs are probably quite a bit higher than the boost.I was told the 71 wheel gives a 1 to 1 drive pressure to about 50 lbs of boost.

Now for the tow report.Took the horses for a little ride today.Probably weighed in around 10k on the GN.There is a noticable lag in comparison to the 62/12.Probably about a 2 second difference getting to 10 lbs of boost but once to 10 it takes off.Could reach 40lbs in about 3 seconds or less.1st thru 4th not much difference in excelleration.5th and 6th is where the lag is more noticable.Even though its slower to spool the exhaust temps never got over 1000*.Could easily reach 1200* with the 62/12.Definitely spooled better running about 40% on the mp-8.Was running Smarty 4.11 on level 5 moderate TM. I can definitely live with the towing performance of this turbo for as few a times I tow a year.If the truck was primarily a tow vehicle and saw alot of weight I would want the 62/12 back on it.

I have stupid question. HTT says HTB2's can be upgraded. Can an HTT62/65/13ss be upgraded to any higher performance stuff? Loke going from a 65 to a 71?

Thanx.

Awesome looking turbo!

I think the 71 would definitely work for you being you only tow light.I hit 48lbs of boost just playing yesterday.Need some studs real soon.

Does anyone know at what boost this turbo becomes inefficient?I am guessing around 50lbs.If its less I need to turn it down some.

Just something to consider for eveyone. Before I got the flux1's to get the 62/12 to hit 42lbs of boost I had to run an adjustable boost elbow and adjust the wastegate really short.Put the flux1's in and the boost was through the roof(50lbs and then some)Installed the original unrestricted elbow and lengthened the wastegate rod and still hit 48lbs.Aftermarket injectors are definitely a big help in spool up

I think it can be upgraded to the 71 wheel but you have to send it back to them so they can balance it.

Good info for me on both those last posts Homewrecker. I am not ready for injectors. And if a year of so down the road I want to try a 71, it will be an option (for a few more $$$'s of course).

Thanx again homewrecker.

You can upgrade the turbo. Say if you wanted to go from a 62/71/13ss to a 62/65/13ss you they will change the exhaust hausing, shaft, and turbine wheel. About 400 bucks worth. I checked into it. Lag is not to bad if you have more fuel to spool it up. I have one on my auto and it is O.K. but I don't have alot of fuel. It does run cool.

No, I doon't know how much power I have, but I would guess somewhere between 475-500. I need to get on a dyno to see where I am.

I wonder if this is partially due to the better exhaust housing? It's a shade bigger and it looks like it has better wastegate flow.

I'm thinking about a 62/65/13ss.

The wastegate ports are definitely larger and the stainless housing is supposed to make it more efficient due to better heat retention.
I kind of worded the temp statement wrong.Meant to say that at under initial excelleration the temps were higher than compared to the 62/12 but once it lit it kept the temps in check where as the 62/12 would keep rising

Hey Homewrecker, does it smoke much more at low RPM's with a bigger exhaust wheel?

The smoke is up a little. If you drive nice and easy just a slight haze till about 1500rpm.If your getting on it its definitely more than with the 62/12 until it lights then clears up.Don't get me wrong. Its nothing obnoxious unless you want it to be.So far I wold recommend this turbo to anyone with a good downloader and wants a good all around turbo(tows decent ,plays decent)The 62/12 is a perfect towing turbo.A 64 and larger would be better for top end.I think this turbo is the happy medium.
