Thanks, but my first tow was from the dealer in Spokane Wa to here in Fairbanks Alaska towing a 24' inboard jet boat. Quite a few miles with a large load. I have further towed the boat all over the state and my mileage still is poor at 9.2 average towing. Dont get me wrong I still love the truck its much better than my Ford PSD ever was I just wish it would get better fuel economy.

ot-of-here; No offense taken boat and trailer weigh in at 5500lbs. You guessed good. But beside that with over a third of the mileage on the truck under load (a third of max tow capacity anyway) and at 15,000 miles the breakin should be well under way. Most of the tow miles were also crossing multiple mountain ranges the Rockies three times and the Alaska range numerous times. I also remember reading some threads on break in stating mileage would only increase about 10% at most not sure about the number. If 10% is correct that would only equal 1 to 2 MPG still way below what I should get.
hmmm i guess im thankful i dont get 10.7.... :/
on long highway trips that are above 70 MPH for 500 miles at a time, i pull 15.5 never below 15.
This was also with a loaded car trailer with a 4,000 pound vehicle
so meh, i cant complain.

Im kinda excited myself. Just got back from the dealer. Somehow they cowroped me into lookin at a 3500 dually ( i have a 2500) anyway i took her for a test drive. First thing i noticed is the engine sounded totally diffrent. My trucks got 5500 miles and this one had 30k on the dot. I liked the louder noisier truck myself. It wasnt real bad but good enough that i knew i had a diesel
Took her on a 30 mi td. reset the overhead and drove same way i drive mine. at first i was supprised to see that the read out was the same as mine. ( part way through the drive) that made me happy By the time i was within 2 miles it was up to 21.6 and still climbing. I facotr in a 2mpg offset cause the computer really has no idea haha. So im figureing 19-20 with a truck bigger than mine less areodynamic and has 2 more tires i cant complain. Mine gets 17. The Vibrations where so bad in it though. Mine had one at 65ish this one came on strong at 45-60 Only thing i wish i would have done that i forgot to do was chech the engine tag for the 600 or the other engines. both trucks were autos
Basically. If this is what i have to look forward too I might just drive the bagezis out of the truck. Good reward in the end.
Oh as far as uses. It was a program truck. shopher purposes i guess. So no hard work

I can't belive the variation in these trucks. mine gets about 12.5-13 mixed driving and 14.5-15 freeway. my overhead is pretty acurate. no huge white smoke problem. I have not had the tsb yet but proably will just to try something.
I have only towed a car trailer with car for around 200miles total so far. I am at about 5k.
my hope is that it will imporve but it has not really changed much yet at all.
funny thing is if my milage was up at the 17 range I would call it good and not complain. I mean these engines make power and that usually affects milage but this whole 12-13 thing sucks around town though. I though I would get at least 15 around town starting out.
the price of diesel and the milage factor is taking its toll on my rational that the diesel was the economical choice in the long run.

Hey OT OF Here sounds like the flash worked for you too . My mileage is WAY up now after the flash too , couldn't be happier . I have noticed where I fuel up makes a BIG difference in economy , garbage fuel were getting these days I guess . Get any pics of that sweet ride up yet ?? Sharp truck brother !! Try changing those fuel filters , amazed what a difference it made on my truck with only 6000 miles . All else fails guys go to a concrete plant and get a couple tons of rock to haul around or else blocks made out of leftover concrete . That will break her in real quick ............ believe me

As you can see, I have a 555 early o4. It has 2,000 miles on it now. The very first tank got me 15.6. The last tank I saw 16.6. My console is absolutely accurate. I have had no flashes. I get 16 something when the engine is cold, no tow and no load. When the engine is warm I see between 17 and 18, if I keep the speed below 60. Above 60, the faster I drive the worse the mileage becomes. I have not driven the truck with the Banks box engaged yet, as It does not have enough miles on it yet. However, the 4" exhaust and the High Ram is installed and in use and I suspect these items help the mileage a bit.

I get 23 on the highway below 65mph and 18 in the city. 13.5 mpg towing a trailer with 5 llamas in it going 75 mph. They call this new 600 engine progress?
I think I'll wait for the next version, or keep this one.

I bet that big mother of yours scares the baJesus out of those Cede & BMW drivers. Why only 2k miles though on an '04? Fuel prices?
My MPG is as good as my '96 CTD and it had a 3.55 rear end.
I have ~ 12K miles on my 04.5 and have had the 037 flash.
Over 2600 miles towing a 36.5 5er ~ 6tons - I got 13-14 MPG on the flat and 10.3-10.6 in the mountains. I stayed in OD and cruise nearly all the way. In cruise - reasonable down hill (mountain) speed control with my 48RE tranny. I usually tarvelled at 60-65 MPH. (note - I have a 4.10 rear end)
Hwy I get 20-21 MPG at 60-65 MPH and 17-18 MPG city. (not too much stop and go in Casa Grande Az).
I am happy with the MPG considering the P O W E R and great ride.
Love my D O D G E CTD.
Cheers
